Motorpoint offered £1200
The focus was a 56 Plate 1.6 sport at £8495 with about 13K on the clock, Motorpoints equivalent was £8K, so still a better deal with Ford after trade in values.
However I'm not bothered about alloys and front fog lamps etc.
Seen a focus at Evans Halshaw 56 plate 12.5K on clock at £7994, I will see what they can offer me.0 -
Sounds as if they are valuing at below average condition and from what you have said redents etc will equate to the lower valuation. You then say it needs a gear box looks like a deal to me £1,200!!
Motorpoint £8,000 - £1,200 = £6,800 cost of change.
Ford £8,500 - £2,000 = £6,500 cost of change.
As has been asked befor if the Ford car is older than the Motorpoint one then it will probably be worth paying the extra £300. Hang around for long and you might not even be able to drive it to the garage and then the price will be even lower.0 -
Hang on a minute ppl!
3 weeks ago I was given £2k part exchange on a 306! 2001 plate (only 50k mind you!). That needed a new gear box too (again, I suspected but if they decide not to test drive it themselves they are going to leave themselves open to that).
You need to shop around alot and get that part ex price up!!!0 -
'Cost to change' is the relevant bit - ie how much cash you need to give on top of your trade-in.
Windscreen prices and trade-in values are fairly irrelevant at most garages. You can get '£1000 minimum part-ex value' for a £50 scrapper at many garages, so their prices will all be £1000 too high.
Motorpoint's cost to change will be spot on. They are a high volume retailer and don't mess about with bulls**t prices and values.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Stick the Pug in auction yourself with a £1400 reserve, only the auction fee at stake and everything to gain.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

I used Motorpoints internet sales site to organize the purchase and part exchange of my old car for an Astra ctdi. Because I live in Scotland, it was arranged for the viewing and purchase to be at the Glasgow branch. All went well initially - but I was assumed to pay the last installment of my finance on the old car which was a standing order on the *28th* of each month.
I ordered the car on the 12th of the month and was phoned by the Derby branch that they wanted the deal done in Glasgow on thursday the *27th* of that month. They said that if it didn't happen then, the part exchange would lose a calander month in the glasses car valuation guide and they stood to lose £500. I explained that I couldn't get to Glasgow that day due to infant care - but they basically pushed me into this.
So, I went to Glasgow, signed the deal, and swapped the paperwork and left my old car with them. I assumed that, as now they had possession of my old car and it's paperwork, I could then cancel my standing order with my bank.
Driving my new Astra back home, I cancelled the standing order with my bank.
Their car now being part exchanged on 27th of the month and my payment due on the 28th of the month.
Got phoned a few days later to say that the final payment hadn't been made to my old cars finance company.
I am now being taken to court by Motorpoint for non payment. And was threatened that Motorpoint would repossess my new astra for non payment !
A hearing date has been set in DERBY county court when the deal was struck in Scotland.
Take note, Motorpoint record every phone call to and from their branches. I asked for a copy and got SOME of them but not the important ones for my defence.
Will post the outcome when it's all over.0 -
Let me get this straight. You had a final payment to pay on the car which you didn't make? Not surprised they are taking you to court as imagine they have paid it? Why did you not make the final payment? And why has it got this far?
Have I read this correctly?
Another thought. Was it a balloon payment as the final payment?0 -

Dear Hintza,
To aid in you "getting things straight" let me simply answer your questions, and try to elaborate.
Yes, i did make my final payment.
They are taking me to court as they believe there is an 'extra' month to pay.
All payments to my car were made on time, and with no arrears.
No balloon payment.
It got this far, as they sold the debt to a scavenger who stops at nothing to try and bully people into paying a sum of money that they do not owe only to stop the hassle they are going through.0 -

But you said there was still a payment due?0
