New boiler to replace Worcester

My current boiler Worcester 28i is 15 years old so I am looking to replace it. I am going round in circles trying to find the best replacement at a good price (not necessarily the cheapest) with the best warranty. Or should I look for a guarantee rather than a warranty? In my 80th year I don't want to get it wrong- so much confusing information

As your old one lasted 15 years, why not go for the same?

Out of interest, what is wrong with the existing boiler - is it unreliable or just 15 years old?

What do you envisage replacing? Are the radiators and pipes ok.

It may be an idea to get a professional plumber to give an evaluation on your existing system before ripping out a fully working boiler? They could also advise a suitable replacement if they conclude your old boiler/system is beyond economic repair.

There are very few wearable parts in the boiler which could all be examined / replaced as part of a enhanced service for less than the cost of a new boiler.

I think Worcester Bosch themselves, offer an enhanced service and will replace any parts that need replacing/are very worn. Cost is around £400 I think and hopefully will keep the boiler going for a few more years ( unless there is something very seriously wrong with it)

    Hi Yomagsi.

As asked above, why are you considering replacing this middle-aged 15-year old combi?

The reason - assuming there is an 'issue' - might help determine whether a fixed-price repair is a good alternative call.

Because in that time, technology and design will have changed so much. Looking at Alpha E-Tec Plus NX 28kW as opposed to Worcester. Wondered if anyone had experiences to share

No issue at the moment but in the last 4 years I have had 4 leaks and had to have an expansion tank fitted so think it needs replacing before something serious goes wrong

AFAIK the pipes and rads are OK and I read that replacing them doesn't guarantee better heat or efficiency so not looking to replace those

Hey, pal, you ain't much beyond me :-)

From - mainly - this MSE forum, one thing I have learnt is to 'leave well alone, for as long as you can'.

In the past, ooh, five years, as ASHPs and their ilk have developed beyond recognition, it has still become clear to me that this progress continues apace. I've lost count of the times I thought, 'Time to change!', only to find, a few months later, a significantly better development in place. I'm in the process of fitting some Li-ion batteries - maaaan, 'Sodium' is the latest thing!

Enjoy life. Do not bovver yourself over trivial things like the next best boiler. Your 15-year old Bosch is very efficient, already comfortably above 90%, and fitting a new boiler is highly unlikely to show itself as a reduced fuel bill. And even if you did save a couple of per-cent, it would have been at an outlay of around threethousandpounds. Which you will not recoup. And nor would I.

So, if it works, keep it. And when it goes faulty, let us know what the issue is, and we may be able to guide you towards a FPR at around £400, or time for a new boiler.

The above is only my opinion, of course. My ~20-year old GlowWorm is like Trigger's broom. Hummin' :-).
