Two NSDs this week. Not today as I’ve run out of milk. But again I haven’t spent money this week on anything outrageous.
Heard back from a job I interviewed for. Didn’t get it unfortunately - I kind of knew in there that I wouldn’t. You know when you just get a feeling from the people interviewing you? Well the way they were looking at me I was like yeah there’s no way I’m getting this. So, the job hunt continues.
I have to say that the journey to that interview was horrendous. It was over an hour away; now I don’t mind driving normally, so really not a problem. But I looked down after it felt like I’d been in the car for ages already and my phone was saying I still had half an hour to go! So even if they offered it, I don’t think I would have taken it because there’s no way I could have done that journey regularly.
Disappointed France are out of the World Cup as I had £10 on them to win! Yeah maybe I should have saved that money but I think having a little flutter once in every four years is fine 😂

I had a frustrating day. I’m not sure if there’s something wrong with my internet or something but was taking so long for me to do anything at work… even send an email.
Next week I’m starting a new role in a slightly different team at work. Same organisation, but a 12 month secondment. So it will be nice to work with some brand new people and do something a little bit different.
Counting down to payday now really. At the beginning of August my new fix comes into place and I can finally make an overpayment! So that will be exciting.

Payday today. I set aside another £500 for an overpayment. I’ve saved £1,500 so far. I can’t do anything until my new fix starts at the beginning of August, but the money is set aside and ready to go. I think with some birthday money, and some money set aside in another account that I overpay into, I might be able to make a £2k overpayment. So we shall see.
I think in August I will join a virtual walking challenge. I am in a complete funk and although I absolutely just want to stay in bed all day and sleep, I think I need to get outside. So I’ll have a think about what a realistic distance could be, and then sign up.
One of the Vinted sellers I found locally has messaged me back, so she can have my IKEA bag full of clothes and a 20% cut, and maybe she will have more luck than I did. At this point I’m just happy to get the bag out of my house.Planning on another car boot sale as my parents are still decluttering. I’ve found a few bits round the house to contribute.

My Vinted lady has made a sale and transferred me £13! So I’ll take out £10 of that and put it in my money box.
Went to the car boot again today with my parents and we made £46 profit. Most of the heavy lifting was done by my dad’s old tools so my parents are really happy that they’ve got rid of some bulky things. We’ll split the money three ways again so I have another £15 at home ready to also put in my money box.
I think I will finally get to make an overpayment next week! I’ll check tomorrow to make sure my new fix is in place, and go from there. Fingers crossed!

I’ve finally done it!! My new fix is in place and I was just able to make an overpayment!
The three months of saving have paid off and I have just made a £2k overpayment and reduced the term by 1 year and 3 months and saved £2,160.65 in interest 😀 The mortgage balance hasn’t updated yet but I should be somewhere around the £78k mark.
I chose to keep my monthly payments the same because I can afford them as they are, and also I think reducing the interest is my priority as that’s where most of my money is going.
It’s quite a high really isn’t it. Now I’m going to sell everything I own so I can make more overpayments! Haha but in all seriousness I think I could make another one at the end of the month after payday, but I don’t want to get too ahead of myself as it is only the 5th of August. But I’m really happy! Woohoo!

Just heard that we are getting a pay increase and that it could potentially be in our September pay packet, back dated to April. So if that happens, I’ll put that aside immediately for an overpayment. It could be around the £400 mark, but I am notoriously bad at maths so we shall have to wait and see.
I have spent quite a bit of money this month but I have been socialising a fair bit so I don’t feel bad about it. I’m even busy this week and this weekend with nice activities to see out the month. It just means I won’t have much to put aside for an overpayment when I get paid. It was nice to let loose a little to be honest. But I will be hibernating in September.
My secondment is going well. I love the team. The work is fine. It’s only for six months and I absolutely do not want to go back to my old team when it’s over so I suppose I should keep job hunting really. At the very least by carrying on, my applications will get better as I get into the habit of doing them. The interviews are where I fall down though so I will need to spend time coming up with examples of things I’ve done, STAR-ing them and then learning them. I find that extremely challenging.
I’ve got some books ready to post off to World of Books. I’m just trying to finish one more so that can go in the box too, and that will get me £7.42 all together.
My Vinted lady has made a couple of sales - my most recent payment from her was £4. She’s going to see what she can do to get the rest moving. I feel like I gave her quite a lot of stuff, but somehow my wardrobe is still bursting at the seams, so maybe I need to be more strict.
No more car boot sales, so nothing to report there.
Every time I do my online food shop I am shocked at the price, because I’m buying ordinary food. I’m not buying anything extravagant - it’s chicken, salad, fruit, milk, toilet roll, bread, eggs, oats. Yet when I look at the total I just can’t believe it. One week it was £67 and I looked back through and I was thinking “what have I actually bought here?!” I shop at Tesco so it’s not like I’m even buying at a high end shop like Waitrose or M&S.
Not really asking for any advice on that point, I guess it’s just an observation on the price of stuff and how I’m noticing increases. I keep seeing people on social media saying things like ‘surviving on one income in a society built for two is a flex’ - yeah ok, but it’s also very tiring.

I haven’t been to the dentist in about 5 years and I decided when I got paid at the end of August I would go. It makes me very stressed and with the pandemic and stuff, I just avoided it and never went back.
Well my dentist has now moved to a membership service, so you pay a certain amount each month. So for example £15 per month gets you 1 dentist appointment and 1 hygienist appointment per year, for £30 per month you get two of each.
So I phoned up and asked about membership and asked to join, and the receptionist said I’d have to book in for an initial consultation and then when I’m there for that we can discuss membership options and I can get signed up.
Tell me why I have just had to pay a deposit for that appointment of ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY POUNDS!!
Like… £130?! For an initial check up?!
And yes unfortunately it’s private because nowhere near me has NHS space. But five years ago I definitely wasn’t paying £130 per appointment 😭 Maybe if they don’t do anything out of the ordinary I won’t have to pay anything extra. But there we go: an unexpected expense for September. But a necessary one.
