    Regulations were changed in 2001.

Any account that was opened before 2001 can not be reported to any credit report without permission given by the account holder first.

So for this law to be applied you would think 'all' accounts at least have an opening date or flag attached, indicating they predate this law or not. This being visable to any rep, eye balling the account on screen.

So in the OP's case the rep would have at least known the account predated 2001.

It wouldn't be necessary to make the opening date available. A simple Yes/No flag would suffice, with pre-existing accounts defaulting to No and all accounts opened from 2001 defaulting to Yes.

I'd imagine permission can be given through a unilateral variation to the contract, which is why some have observed accounts appear after many years of not being reported. Obviously such a change would need to be subject to notice and the ability to wind down the credit agreement without penalty.

I've always wondered why Clearscore/Equifax show a linked address of mine from over 20years ago. I think it was a virgin credit card back in the day that created this link, and it's never dropped off.

The address links (as opposed to the financial accounts) don't seem to expire in my experience. I have one introduced by Alliance & Leicester during my university days that is still there. Perhaps they go away when the associated address is expired - in my case I'm still living there.
