Some people like to look after the cars they've spent their own hard earned buying.

Some people aren't quite that retentive that they need to add polish the tyres. It must be an urban affliction. A bit pointless on rural roads and farm tracks. My time is spent keeping "her indoors" 22 year old 7.5 ton wagon on the road, which I can tell you is time consuming. Sod polishing the tyres.

I get that most people dont. As is their perrogative.
Those who dont should scroll on by posts on the subject.

Genuine query - Does tyre shine stuff serve any other purpose other than making the tyres look clean and shiny? Does it have any protection or longevity effect?

No in fact silicone based tyre dressing is bad for your tyres. Make sure water based tyre dressing is used.

Shoe polish is good for making tyres look good, without your beloved motor looking like a dealers car.

Nothing wrong with looking after a set of Carlos Fandango.
