Hi all.
I went into Carphone Warehouse today to get my old man a new phone and was told the Motofone F3 is free when bought with £10 airtime on Virgin PAYG.
BUT Carphone Warehouse will give you £10 off your purchase if you take in a working phone with a charger, so I did and got the new one for free!!
It's also on their website here.

cheers for that! i just looked all over my flat to find my old (working) phone and the charger. not using it so may as well go and get a nice new one with £10 credit!
dont I need a manual too for £10 trade in tho?0 -
well what a terrible phone! :P
lol. just got my old old phone that i never used traded in - first CPW store said £7.50 tradein value coz theres no manual but the second place was fine, £10 towards it. mmmm. guess it was worth it for £10 free credit but still... just trying to get over the fact that such a basic phone still exists!
now... i wonder if i can just take this handset and charger in for trading in against another with £10 credit? hehe :P0 -
Agreed its not the best of phones - but its ideal for certain things.
For us its ideal to take out sailing as it has a large easy to read screen, fits in a waterproof case and if it gets destroyed by salt water (like the last one, due to a failing waterproof case) it was only a fiver/free...thats why we went and traded in 2 of our old sailing phones for two of these great little ones.
Thanks OP0 -
I agree the phone's very basic, but if you just want something for calls & the odd text, it's perfect. And apparently the battery life's excellent.
I'm sure there are other phones where you could get a similar deal, I just posted about this one cos that's the one I got on the deal, as my old man wants a big screen and big buttons and none of this fancy complicated stuff!!
I went in and asked about the deal before taking the phone down and trading it and was told that all I needed was the phone and charger, and that the phone didn't even have to be in perfect condition, just as long as the screen wasn't cracked or anything. As long as it would turn on it was fine. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

This must be one of the few areas where technology has gone backwards - battery life. Phones used to last 1 week before colour screens and now we accept 3-4 days as normal. This phone will last a week on one charge BUT the user interface is rubbish. It is however a phone (remember those?) and it does what it says on the box - makes calls and texts.
How can this be anything other than a bargain?
PS. I want a Nokia without a colour screen but with bluetooth - that would be heaven, no camera but it would be easy to use and last over a week on one charge. Heaven.

Is the phone locked with Virgin?

Sorry, I don't know as we only have Virgin sims in my house and it was bought to be used with a Virgin sim in it (We're all on the £10 for 300+300 deal). I had a look around online before buying and it looks like there's ways of unlocking them if it is.Is the phone locked with Virgin?

This phone is great for elderly relatives. Single button dialling. The battery seems to last forever, the paper screen consumes no power and works a treat in bright sunlight. No menu's to get lost in. Other than the power socket, it is waterproof as well.0

I'll go along with that we got one for my girlfriend's 80(ish) year old gran.
Instructions:
To switch on press RED button.
Type in your number
Press GREEN button
and to stop press RED button
and once more to turn off.
She had been given a Nokia 1110 and was completely phased by it.
And the best bit is when it runs out of credit she'll give it back and we'll get her another one (she only uses it to make calls) and then we send it to tesco and get £12 of deal tokens (and recycle to save the planet:D ).You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0 -
I got one too, I was just asked for the old phone and charger and was given £10 trade in so I got the Motorola for free with a £10 Virgin sim. It is unlocked and can be used on any network, I'm pretty sure all Carphone Warehouse phones are unlocked too.0
