Definitely not fake despite the paper, government on a budget. !
CEL in house claim, issued 7th April, actual breach not pleaded, the defendant is the OPs partner
Please edit your thread title to something more suitable like
In house CEL court claim

Why has this moved to this point? I requested docs from CE but heard nothing back. Surely they'd realise I'd be castigating them in any legal environment and would have them over a barrel?

With an issue date of 07/04/26 and providing you complete(d) the AoS after 12/04/26 and before or on 26/04/26 your defence deadline date is 4.00 p.m. on 11/05/26

Your partner must log into her government gateway account and complete the AOS online stage on MCOL tomorrow or later this week
The advice in the 2d post in the newbies sticky thread in announcements near the top of the forum tells you both what to do
AoS is Acknowledgement of Service, one of the forms they sent her, part of the process
By doing so she is acknowledging receipt of the paperwork and also getting a further 14 days before the deadline expires , as Le_Kirk mentioned
But you both really need to study the court section in the newbies thread post 2, research, self help

My wife has dementia. She will not be able to do anything.

You will have to step up your game if you want your partner to succeed , so to be perfectly clear
We will point you both at the advice on here and give you our opinion on the best way forward
We wont do it all for either of you, you can hire an expensive lawyer if you want legal advice or an intermediary or advocate to act for her ( we dont recommend this for a single pcn money of less than £600 like this one . )
Sorry to be so blunt but you need to grasp the reality of this
But we will help you throughout this, if you do the research and grunt work based on our experience and advice
You should not be worrying about how it got to this point, you should concentrate on helping your partner deal with this official civil court claim , by understanding and following our advice

What IS the reality? It looks fake. CE did not respond to my requests for evidence or contracts. They provided nothing except pics of a car on a road in the UK. That's the reality I'm looking at. How can they jump to the courts when they've not responded to my further requests? I also provided proof of my wife's illness. It's utterly bonkers.

Sorry to hear that
Do you have an LPA or similar in place in order to legally represent her with financial and legal affairs. ?
( the CNBC is a government department and currently expects her as the named defendant to deal with the claim, not you, not anyone else unless they are legally qualified or have legal powers . )
