2025/26 Self Assessment Tax Return

sorry to hear that. Hopefully depending on the level of checks and if you can supply extra info they need, it could speed it up.
I’m not going to call them until Wednesday, but I suspect that mine will too. I subcontracted to a guys that had two companies go bust in 6 months. Although he submitted CIS statements to the full amount, he defaulted on the net amount to me. So I suspect the CIS pot will be unbalanced and result in extra checks.
This is the first year in 10 years that I’ve not been in the first batch of repayments, and I’ve done nothing differently.

sorry to hear that happened, yeah this is my first time to I expect it cause my income is drastically lower then the last 4 years, and it will of triggered extra security. Unsure how the process works now with extra checks in all honesty just said on the phone it’s going through extra check and can take up to 12 weeks for payment.

I've been following this thread with interest. I'm not self employed but a salaried employee on PAYE so quite straight forward in terms of tax.
I submitted a SA form for 23/24 in Jan 2025. It was only a few hundred pounds pension tax relief but it took 6 months for HMRC to issue a refund.
Last month I made some substantial payments into a SIPP so I have already submitted SA for 25/26.
Have HMRC improved their payment timescales ( I hope so!)?
Thanks

Were you issued with a notice to file a return or have you just submitted one without being asked to do so?
