Converting garage to make space for pool table
Hi
Would appreciate some advice on whether i can convert my garage to make space for a pool table and what the costs might look like.
I am thinking i can remove the bricks from the side of the wall (pictured) and then put bi-fold doors in it, so i can open the doors to allow sufficient space to utilise the cue properly.
The garage of course would also need to be sealed so no moisture can get in and ruin the table.
Any thoughts on if this would be possible and costs, or alternative solutions, is appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like a fairly modern estate - have you checked to see if there are covenants and/or planning conditions requiring the garage to be kept as a garage.
Only being able to use the pool table properly when the weather is good enough to have the bifolds open would be quite restrictive - the conversion work won't be cheap, have you thought about the cost/benefit and an idea what budget you've got available?

yes all is ok on that front.
yes I take your point re the restrictive nature of the weather..!It’s something I’ve thought of…. The other option would be to do a proper extension of course… i assumed the bifold idea would be cheaper than a full extension…
re cost/benefit - this is purpose of my post, to find out how much it might cost…. And that might put a kybosh on it straight away!Any ideas on cost?

Yep, completely doable and most of the work DIY (electric worth getting done professionally.
DPM, sub floor then stud out the inside walls. Put a lintel in where the doors are going (might need a steel depending on span, plasterboard and skim.
A lot of work but do it step by step. Recommend buying a book similar to the Haynes manuals to help

thanks @jonnydeppiwish!
appreciate the estimates… in all honesty I’d probably not do the work myself so that’s really useful

I have played pool in tight spaces and shorter than normal cues are available.
Not ideal, but a lot cheaper than fitting bi fold doors !

thanks yeh point taken…
I tested it out by buying an MDF small snooker table and it just wasn’t any good I’m afraid

Could you mount the pool table on heavy duty castors or on a motorised platform that would allow you to move it sideways when required?
I know that can be done to allow a table to be moved when not in use. I have no idea how practical it would be to move it regularly during play.
Pool is a quick game so it probably won't work but I will ask the question anyway.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".1 -
maybe… but we don’t have much in the garage … so it’s not about the space around a table… it’s literally just the garage isn’t big enough at present

Think you've miss understood the idea being proposed, your picture shows the pool table being off centre so clearly you can position the table in the room with enough space down one side. The idea was that the table is on a mechanical mechanism to move it so its on one side of the room unless someone needs to take a shot from the other side and so the mechanism moves it across the room thus creating the space on the other side.
Not sure it would work in practice (ie balls not moving as table moves) and not sure it wouldnt spoil the fun of the game but in theory it could work
