Not my car, not my plate. Scandalous dereliction of care.
I wonder if someone, more well versed in these situations than I, will kindly let me have their thoughts please. I have received a parking charge from an outfit called "Saba Park Services". They alledge I was illegally parked in "Chalfont" without a ticket and are demanding a £60:00 penalty. When signing into their website, they attach a clear photograph of the vehicle concerned. It is a completely different make and type of vehicle to my own. The number plate is similar - but obviously has a black screw that nearly turns a D into a B which then mirrors my own plate. However, a myopic bat could tell the difference at a glance. Clearly, I have challenged the ticket through their website and await their response. However, a couple of things occur to me. As a Northern OAP, who has never been to Chalfont, why should I put up with this anxiety? Secondly, surely they have accessed my data from the DVLA illegally and in breach of data protection? Thanks for reading.

They will have accessed the keepers details from the reg number, which they would have appear to have misread.
No need to get anxious in anyway, no matter what age or part of the country you are in😊

Mistakes happen. Whilst annoying, it's not worth getting yourself wound up about. You've pointed out the obvious error, it will get sorted. It would be more difficult if your plate had been cloned and put on an identical vehicle, but clearly that hasn't happened.

Obvious error ..mistakes happen …..my backside it is ….. they couldnt care less….. they welcome all sorts of error as it is very profitable .
14.4 Million invoices in a year or over 39300 odd issued per day is utter rubbish its nothing to do with parking correctly .
Engineered error for profit ….is what I call this ..they embrace it …..welcome it…. then send it.
They are predators out for financial gain ……effectivily scammers .
The use of severe pressure tactics and threat that causes elevated levels of anxiety is 100% intentional ….its the whole game they play …...your not playing cricket here look at the numbers this is easy big money .
They will pretty much say and do anything to illicit financial gain and are practised at it via robo claiming in the millions
Bottom line ….Do not pay it …..this forum is the way forward to counter all the threats and bluster so "listen to the regulars on here" not the sewer dwelling low life sending threats .
I had 4 PE/Asda invoices (timed out ,eventually the last one this month )….36 threatograms received but that was just one set of circumstances lots of variations exist .
Its not easy fighying back but listen to the regulars on here …not the PPC,s Solictors Debt collectors ….they are the monkeys .

Thanks for your replies. Yeah I know - let it go it's not worth the bother. You are right of course - but…I don't really see this as a mistake, but complete and egregious incompetence. A bit Victor Meldrew here…

You could ignore it, then hope they sue. You could then counterclaim for a couple of hundred.

I think to obtain the registered keeper from DVLA pay £2.50 submit V888/3 or similar and show sufficient cause ie parking dispute, hit and run etc

Last thing I need is to deal with parking tickets that don't belong to me. Hopefully, it gets cancelled. Otherwise you might need an adjudicator (like popla or ias) if they push it to debt collection. Again hopefully, it won't go that far.

"When signing into their website, they attach a clear photograph of the vehicle concerned. It is a completely different make and type of vehicle to my own."
Clear breach of the KADOE contract with the DVLA:-
"B7.2.
The Customer shall ensure before relying on any item of Data that the Data provided matches the information in the request (for example, so that the model, type and colour of the vehicle match) and shall not seek to recover payment where the Data provided does not match the vehicle information in the request."

You can perform a simple and free check on a vehicles registration/number plate on the DVLA website here:
The parking company will have obtained similar information
If the registration does not match the vehicle then the parking company should have checked further than then not continued to access and process your personal data as they have no just cause to do so. Accuracy of data is a key component of UK GDPR (data protection) legislation.
So the parking company is on the hook here for:
Breach of UK GDPR - inaccurate data as such no just cause
Breach of contract with DVLA for data release, as per 105grandad
The landowner/whatever entity gave the parking company permission to operate on their land can also be held jointly liable for the actions of their agents, there are some situations where the landowner trace/liability can be easier than others, but where a link is easy to establish then the landowner should be ought into this kicking and screaming if possible.
The BIG question, do you have an address for the car park in question?
From the Plain Language Commission:
"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"6 -
All depends if they cancel it or not.
If not you can either ignore, or fight it by means of logging time spent dealing with it and their debt collectors, invoicing them and ultimately suing them.
