Indeed, the charging schedule would be quite useful for Snug to prevent over runs onto peak if it ever comes back.

Don't have specific info about German off-peak tariffs, but the Ecostrad manual refers to an 8H-14H switched supply which implies that their hours may generally be longer. (Bit confusing because that's the duration, not the time of day.)

German electricity is no doubt much cheaper, more people live in small well insulated flats so running costs of electric heating is less of a problem there.

As previously mentioned, buying goods designed for use in other countries can often be problematic.

Unfortunately, many people here find this out the hard way (think of the infamous F F H 'perfect modern replacement for old-fashioned storage heaters').

    Off topic for Op

But Thanks - for the manual.

Another heater where there are only two charge windows - but at least the example shows - it can be set to straddle midnight - as shows charge period 1 starting 2300 (unlike iirc the Dimplex).

Id have to say I'd discount the brand for my E10 3 times per day - as many old SSE THTC I believe have been moved onto as part of RTS upgrades - but then I thought that about Elnur'ss ECombi from the manual alone - but user here tell me they will take a charge at any time - if leave times blank.

But given OP has been told to set the times by manual and tech support - I think its safest to assume the manual for the Ecostrads is correct.

Taking more time to read the version of manual posted by Wisermiser - the above a little wrong.

I believe that in this case the 750W top up is a bit like the Dimplex - external to the core.

This one acts I think more like a convection heater - the Dimplex like a fan heater.

So it doesn't impact core storage at all - so that's more to do with the 8h-14h as pointed out by EssexHebridean above

An update from me, 2 nights in a row set the timings for within the night/ cheap rates. Got up in morning to a cool heater. Installer came back rechecked everthing all ok, no reason for it not to work,. He spent some time looking at manual trying to understand it. The solution was the current temp ( off the room) on the control panel was showing 21.3deg.( I reckon my room temp was about 17 deg) so therefore you have to set it above that figure. Set point temp at 23 deg came down to a room that was too warm but the room temp was showing at what my set point temperature was set at 23 deg. It felt like it was about 30deg.! The only other symbol showing is vent open

There is also a % figure on the control panel it was at 24% at midnight and this morning it had risen to 46% with the charge. My usage cost wise £3:50 p for the overnight period was in line with my old storage heaters (Bear in mind i have another one in the hall) I phoned the tech dep where i bought my heater and they confirmed you had to set a time for it too charge ie midnight to 7am, he also confirmed the set temp had to be set above the current temp showing for it to charge, something thats not clear or mentioned in the manual? His advice is too continue charging it up over the next 14 days, not bother with setting times to boost etc at the moment .. He will advice at a later date. There is option to adjust your current room temp if you think its wrong but it can only be adjusted by 3deg. , but have left that at the moment

. .So the set temp is still 23deg as i havent touched anything today and the current temp is showing 22.2 altho i reckon its about 18 deg as the heater is now cool again. The % charge showing has dropped to 10% . I assume i have to set it tonight to at least 24 deg for it too work ! Got to admit i find it hard work to understand . At the moment it is just like the old storage heater too warm in the morning & by evening its lost its heat, thankfully the temps outside are higher this week no idea what it would be like if we were in minus temps. Will just have to see how it goes over next 2 or 3 weeks .

That sound rather like a faulty control unit. I'd be having words with whoever sold the heater to me.

I'll repeat my comments to set the charging times to 0000 to 2359, to disable the internal resistor (top-up convector), to look at the internal terminals to make they're wired correctly and to look at the meter on the wall to make sure it's not charging during the day rate times.

Did you ask the techie why they're only showing the superseded version of the manual? They don't seem very clued up.

Also buy a cheap digital room thermometer so that you're dealing with measurable facts, not feelings.

They sent an updated manual with the storage heater

Sorry looked in on the latest post a bit late - I really do not believe you have to increase the temperature to 1c above room - to get it to charge tonight.

It really should be a set and forget operation - unless you want a different temp profile - its the whole point of intelligent charge adaption and thermostatic control - you not only get what you need - the heater only takes the power required to deliver what you need.

PS The home page says the Magma does have a fan to boost circulation - so sorry about that

    https://ecostrad.com/magma-hhr/

"Enhanced Heat DistributionAn integrated fan helps circulate warm air more effectively, delivering faster heat-up times and a more even temperature across the whole room."

And as to the charge algorithm

"By learning from your daily routine, room temperature, and heat usage, the Magma adjusts its charge cycle automatically – so you’re never using more energy than you need."

I would expect the charge algorithm to work more - in simple terms

If you just want the same temp on successive days all other things equal - the algorithm should basically just charge the nsh by the same amount as the previous day - if you like to the 43% you had this morning - had that been enough.

You really shouldn't be touching the profile once it is set to enable continued stable operation

I assume i have to set it tonight to at least 24 deg for it too work.

If however it notes a failure to achieve your target profile - it will add to the charge target (if the temp undershoots the set target across the day and runs out of charge - or below some minimum) - so the 43% would go up over time.

And if it overshoots the profile - if the net charge in the core is building up but not being used - it will reduce the charge the next night - and drop back to nominal.

Their are aspects to this NSH for instance - when it comes to tweaking thermostat behaviour - simple cut off with user selected hysterisis - and even a PID control algorithm to predict and reduce overshoot (a la smart GCH thermostat) etc - suggests a far cleverer device than the Manuals translation - and for that matter your seller advice perhaps suggests.

But I still really dont get the bit on page 9 about conflict and about room heating 3C with an HHR model.
