Some do & some do not, given the number that visit the local branded suppliers who can be 10p Ltr more expensive than supermarkets… Which they will drive past at some point.

    Utter madness 🤣

New cars haven't been anything but flat-rate taxed for nine years now…

I now only buy fuel very 4-6 weeks, so probably not. However I also have 6 very local fuel stations (three of which are BP) so I can check which of those is cheapest as one is usually a similar price to the two supermarket fuel stations.

Yes and you can go back even further than that on here and find people buying new(er) cars which are depreciating
a lot more than their previous car to seemingly save a small amount of money where in reality it's costing them more.

I am probably going to suggest to the family that they keep their cars topped up and the best way to do that is knowing what is cheap and what is expensive. Fuel shortages are starting to become a thing in certain countries over the last few days.

I will wait and see what Trump does when his 48 hour limit deadline is up before he possibly bombs Iran's power infrastructure.

The Department for Transport are already working with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) on contingency plans ranging from lower motorway speed limits to petrol rationing.

The problem with changing speed limits for better efficiency is that cars are different. With an EV slower is probably better but with
petrol/diesel the cars gearing makes a huge difference.

I have had it on the motorway cruising in 6th gear in a 2L diesel, a smidge under 70mph and I get high 60's mpg. Signs saying reduced
speed limit to 50mph for better emissions, not for me because had to drop a gear and now using more fuel. Also keeps me in that section
longer so there is more chance of my vehicle doing a regen in that section which is not going to help the emissions.

They changed a couple of 40mph roads to 30mph near me and my fuel usage has increased.

Wasn’t keeping cars topped up what caused the last three fuel crises? A bit like toilet paper in COVID and Northern Rock.

But it’s a fair point - better plug the EV in tonight.

The thing is with a scattered family you just never know when something will happen and you need to drive hundreds of miles, bit of a snafu with only a quarter of a tank.

One of the reasons we bought an electric car was - being rural - we're one of the first places in the county to have cancelled road fuel deliveries. It happened a couple of weeks ago and will likely happen again soon.

Once there is a whiff of shortage, the UK public goes completely nuts and the supply chain falls apart. Anyone could argue that they "might have to drive hundreds of miles for something at short notice"… it just isn't a credible risk. From experience, having lived through fuel strikes - domestic flights become empty as people stop travelling so that's a much better option.

Yes, back in 2000 I remember the managing director of the company I worked for saying he didn't know why people were making such a fuss about fuel, he'd filled up his car, his wife's car (she could walk to work in ten minutes) and his 'hobby' car (an MG B).
