If they have unconditional offers presumably they have a strong academic background indicating that the uni route could be right for them.

I appreciate that, but just accommodation alone is 9K !!!t plus their own debt ontop of that. No way in the world we can afford that times 2

Without our support its impossible for them to fund

Two nights a week work plus working in the holidays - approx 8k-10k a year. 6k (or more if they take account of the twin thing) maintenance loans. That leaves 4-6k each needed from you. Is that completely unmanageable? Presumably they can live on 20k. Does £800 a week halls include food? And are you only paying during term time because that will nearly halve your accommodation costs.

    Let’s say the average uni has 3 x 11 week terms. That’s 33 weeks at £200 which is £6600, not 9 grand.

Plus halls is really only best for the first year. Second and third years they’ll probably live in a house share which should be maximum £400/ month, perhaps a bit more if it’s in London.

I didnt find this to be true. Not twins but when my youngest applied for student finance with her older brother still on his degree, both were still only entitled to min loan despite people telling otherwise. I think there must be an income limit where this doesnt apply.

OP - Im in my 8th consecutive year of supporting a Uni student offspring. It's expensive! My daughter's student rent is almost £200 a week (London but not central near the Kent border).

IME - Its only halls that have less than a year round tenancy - and even those can be dear.

    Potential options.

Take a gap year and save.

    Look for a degree aprenticeship

(My sister's twins did the above).

Study close to home and commute.

As to what evidence is needed if twins were to move to their Dads, no idea but we can prove our daughter lives here by the following

Shes on the electoral roll here for voting.

Anything official eg bank statements etc are still at this address

I agree that halls is only really available for the first year, and these are generally a shorter contract.

Private accommodation in subsequent years though is much higher. My daughter has secured a house share for next year, it’s a 52 week contract at £179 per week (South West).

Maybe I’m out of touch but I’m surprised at paying nearly £800 a month for a room even if it does include bills.

Halls for the first year are normally 38 weeks minimum, yes, you pay for the Christmas, Easter holidays etc when they are not living there. Oxbridge and Warwick do not charge over Christmas and Easter, as the students have to completely clear out their rooms as they are let out during these periods
