Thanks for all the answers and ideas 😊

I opted at a guess for full fat 🤞

Can't shop for 6 weeks which is the problem, not sure when I'll be capable of standing long enough to cook and the little freezer will be full of home made meals, cheese etc. there isn't room for milk. Friends have offered but they all have holidays to work around.

The freezer section of the fridge might be spare. I'll have to see. Meals and ingredients are more important. But tell me that when I want a pot of tea 😉

I couldn't see any powdered . Used to keep one, coffee mate . Awful in tea and I do like my tea.

Interesting thought about cereal, I was thinking of that instead of my usual toast but it will take up fresh milk. So I'll shop for microwave porridge 😐

Problem is our local stores have been eased out by so many supermarkets and those that used to deliver small quantities pre pandemic have been outed by the big delivery companies. Fairly sure there's no milkman.

I buy my milk from a farmer and know the names of the 4 cows. However they are having a rest wouldn't you know it. . Demand is so high they are considering expanding. It's going to be a shock to the system not getting that! Perhaps I should get a cow 🙂

Coffee mate isn't milk… it's mostly glucose syrup and vegetable oil.

    Ingredients

Glucose Syrup, Vegetable Oil, Milk Proteins, Stabilisers (E331, E452), Acidity Regulator (E340), Emulsifiers (E471, E472e), Anti-Caking Agent (E170)

Thanks Emmia, but the find me a milkman came up with a 200mile round trip 😄

    Modern milkman was a no

I would have to sign in for a third. But nice idea

One of the staff in Tesco lives near and said I could phone her but she's on holiday in April which is when it's likely to be. You see why it's easier to get something in.

Most supermarkets sell dried skimmed milk but dried whole milk is much harder to find.

Are you unable to get supermarket deliveries where you are?

Asda do evening slots for £1.50 (wednesday and thursday in this area) with minimum £40 shop which these days is not difficult to spend, if you were short of the minimum you could make the order up with non perishables (like cans) that you can use up later on . The drivers are usually very helpful especially if you have some health or disability issues.

A vote for Oat milk here. I doesn't need to be refrigerated until it has been opened, and keeps well once opened. I'm happy with it in tea and on cereal - not the same as diary milk but tastes fine - not as dire as UHT or powdered milk.

I keep a thing of skimmed uht in the cupboard, discovered that the less fat it has the less artificial it tastes when we used to buy it for milk at work. Full fat has the most obvious uht flavour in my opinion.

In hotels often forced to have all sorts of ghastly milk or milk substitute in room, so if in uk turn up with a pint of frozen normal milk which partly defrosts on the journey and stays cold enough until next morning. I drink a lot of tea.

I have an OP in two weeks and this is what I've done, I'll be in hospital for five days so when I get picked up I'll get them to pop in the shop and get me a four pinter which will last me a while.

Have you got the option of Tesco Woosh, or Deliveroo (it will be more expensive than normal Tesco) that might be able to tide you over when you need it?

Fresh lactose-free milk seems to always have a lengthy Use Before date - milk I bought last week has a UB date in May.

    From Lidl & Aldi it's 99p/litre.
