Long life milk opinions

I'm getting an operation that will keep me immobile for some weeks.

Friends have offered to pick up things for me but they are on holiday at different times so it's a bit iffy for milk. So some long life was suggested.

I hate the stuff so have no experience. Picked up some from Morrisons.😛

But full, semi, which tastes better in longlife milk in your opinion?

Would really appreciate views if you've tried it

Depends on what you want it for.

Drinking milk!? No thanks. I have to be desperate. Nor much better with cereal.

In tea, coffee or for baking, no problem.

Either way I'd go for the full fat stuff.

Non long-life milk is OK for a week (if long dated) in a decently cold fridge.

Do/will you have access to a freezer? Plastic pint bottles freeze well.

Have you considered looking to see if there is a Milk & More or similar operating in your area to get fresh millk delivered ? (and potentially other staples that you may find you are running short of)

They all have that certain taste. Its fine on cereals and in coffee but I really dont like it in tea. Powdered milk is slightly better provided you make it up first.

Have you a freezer? I buy 3 or 4 x 4pint bottles and tranfer about a pint from each into a spare clean bottle. It freezes well you just have to remember to get them out to thaw overnight.

Whatever size you need, you do need to take a little out of each bottle to allow for expansion when frozen. Obviously 4 and 6 pint bottles work out cheaper.

There is also the Cravendale milk that last longer once opened. Parent uses that and thinks it tastes okay.

personally, I have yet to find a good variety of long life milk. Can tell the difference even in tea.

    @twopenny

I would recommend Cravendale, fresher for longer, it is filtered so it lasts longer, up to three weeks if unopened and a week once opened.

It tastes better than 'normal' milk and we try to have one carton in fridge incase we get another beast from the east. Not the most money saving but on offer in Morries at the moment and only 20 p more than normal milk.

Hope things go well with the op and recovery.

Aldi and Lidl both do filtered milk at cheaper price.

Depending what you're using it for, there's also the option of almond, oat, etc. Has the advantage of lasting very well when opened as well as lasting a reasonable time in the cupboard. We have a friend who has to have oat milk so once it's open we'll use it up. Excellent for baking, tolerable on cereal, I wouldn't drink it.

Personally I'd be doing frozen in your situation if I had the freezer space, next choice milk delivery, but I'd probably go for oat over UHT if those were the remaining options.

Do you have a milkman in your area? We get our milk delivered to our door twice a week by ours.

Oatly oat milk, either the barista grey carton or the dark blue whole version, works well in coffee (I don't drink tea) and will last ages in your cupboard before opening if you buy it from the uht aisle. I know not everyone is a fan mind. Alternatively my old neighbour always uses powdered milk in her tea over uht.
