Have just had a look through the Octopus fixes that are due to expire in April 2026: -
Octopus 12M Fixed April 2025 v1 = Zero Fix
Octopus 12M Fixed April 2025 v2 = Zero Fix
Octopus 12M Fixed April 2025 v4 = £50 Early Exit.
If the OP is not fixed - join the MSE Cheap Energy Club and see if they can get a better rate.

Thank you for all your comments. I am very happy with Octopus and unlikely to switch suppliers. I have had bad experiences with other suppliers, in the past. Octopus Customer Services respond promptly and listen to what I have to say. I’ll see what happens on 1 April, 3 June and take it from there. I don’t have clue whether 24.08p/ kWh and 47.28p/ day is good or bad. I’m not sure what my usage is but my DD is currently £204/ month. It should be higher but Octopus have kindly agreed to leave it for now. I’m 73 and will be in a better position to pay more in the summer. I presume I’m a heavy user because I don’t use gas. Oil filled radiators, fan heaters for quick heat and an emersion heater for a bath. How does it compare to other people's bills? I’d love to go green and have solar panels and air source heat pumps etc. but my pension doesn’t stretch to that.

My gut feeling is that at this point we are in a land of speculation, smoke & mirrors. That come April the pressure generally would be downwards rather than up. In addition I have to "factor in" (??) FIT export credits. And do an Octopus Compare ..
At the end of the day it would not be a disaster if whatever Octopus tariff I switch to is not the absolute cheapest on the market. Heresay. For the moment I think the conclusion is to do nothing

@bigg: From what I've read about (heat source) heat pumps, I'd not lose much sleep about missing out on these. One way of getting out of pocket PDQ

If you're referring to Air Source Heat Pumps, then there are a lot of folk on here who would very much disagree with you. Used properly, they can be very economic indeed.

I can't afford it anyway. Underground heat pumps would be preferable but only feasible on new builds. I suppose there’s not much money to be made, once they are laid.

If you pay £204 per month = £2448 per year.
Standing charge 47.28p per day = £172.57 per year.
Therefore energy cost is £2275 per year @ 24.08p / kWh = approx 4800 kWh per year.
Although the rates differ according to where you are in the country, Octopus currently offer Tariff 'Octopus 12M Fixed February 2026 v6' for £113 per month using 4800 kWh per year.
The cheapest Tariff is £106 per month with Outfox Energy.
Post April you should get a discount of 3.54p / kWh which should reduce you down to £190 per month.
Therefore you definitely have scope to reduce your rates.

@EssexHebridean, . ..can be, for new builds, but for other applications the break even point can be very long term. In fairness I had similar doubts before I installed my solar panels.

£2,275 for energy costs @ 24.08p would equate to 9,448kwh/Year
