    However the friend could have arranged postage online and dropped it off at a royal mail customer service point.

    They said “My friend in London paid for the postage at the Royal Mail office hoping it would be sent by Royal Mail.”. No mention of online. They also previously said “Royal Mail Post Office”.

    Im pretty sure they are confusing Post Office with Royal Mail, as many people do.

    As above this is easily sorted, the person who sent it needs to check their receipt to see how it was sent. There’s no point going to RM if it was sent Parcelforce or vice versa, the sender needs to be clear how it was sent. If RM have a limit of 20kg then it is unlikely to be an Rm issue.

    I don't see where you are quoting from. What I see is;

    "then sent by a friend at a Royal Mail post office through special one day delivery"

    It doesn't say the friend paid at a 'royal mail post office' (of which we are all in agreement that there is no such thing)

    Royal mail do not accept parcels over 20kg. What was the declared weight for postage and how was it declared? Was postage paid for at the time or had it been bought previously?

    All this talk of a scam, did make me wonder about the mythical friend!

    It does sound very convoluted;

    "For clarity, this item is not from a seller or some item I bought online. The package is 23kg of goods bought in Nigeria and sent to London by air. It was then sent by a friend at a Royal Mail post office through special one day delivery to Birmingham"

    So the item is not from a seller nor bought online. It was however bought in Nigeria (was op in Nigeria?) OP paid to airfreight the item to London, then a friend received it to send to OP in Birmingham.

    We don't know what information OP has firsthand, and what information is being relayed by the friend.

    We also don't know what the parcel contained or what it was declared to contain.

    I can’t multi quote because of this silly new quoting, but the OPs 1st post on the 3rd page, the first line says…

    ”My friend in London paid for the postage at the Royal Mail office hoping it would be sent by Royal Mail.”

    …which is exactly what I said in my post you have quoted. I then said the OP also stated “Royal Mail post office” but that was in a different post.

    I see that post now, although it isn't certain that it was actually a post office, or whether the staff mentioned were royal mail or post office staff.

    The annoying thing is this would be so much clearer if we all knew what the receipt said.

    What seems interesting is how the 'friend in london' came into possession of the parcel, and why OP didn't have it sent direct to Birmingham. While there is likely to be some financial compensation for loss of the parcel (subject to exclusions) it is unlikely to cover the cost of obtaining a replacement from Nigeria, unless this was specifically agreed prior to posting.

    We don't know what 'post office' means at all, in this case. He may well have gone to a Parcelforce depot and sent it from there. It seems to be with Parcelforce though. It may be that OP will never return and we'll have to make up our own endings 😎
