On line booking used 2 separate airlines, second missed because of delay by first

After years of travelling round the world, including being an air hostess in the early 80's, this is the first time I have encountered this problem. I will stick to booking with single airlines for journeys so any problems are dealt with by them, as I usually do. That hasn't helped on the first leg of my extended trip when I was delayed 18 hours on an emirates flight because the I missed a connection.

If you had booked it as a single ticket with one airline you would still not get a refund for all or part of the trip though. Why do you feel entitled for a refund for a ticket you used?

Thanks, this information has helped me a lot. After some denial on Trip.com's part, they are now looking into thi
as the self-transfer guarantee covers the re-scheduled flight time being less than 4 hours. In fact, I didn't receive the notification until after I'd checked in!
Of interest, Trip.com are ABTA & ATOL members and governed by flights to or from the UK.

Your issue is with the airlines, not trip.com. The airlines got you to your destination, but later than planned. As you've noted, they're not liable for compensation - end of story.

Thanks. This is the first time I have booked a self-transfer flight and didn't know about the guarantee. The flight time was changed less than 4 hours before the flight and this may well be covered by the guarantee which I knew nothing about. They are looking into it for me.Thanks for letting me know.

for all the replies. It has helped a lot, not just in my current claim but also in booking future flights - I am still going to Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Western Samoa and Tonga before heading back to the UK.

I am not sure how such a "self-transfer guarantee" with regard to rescheduling can be meaningful beyond simple marketing.
You were flying Bali to Brisbane to Christchurch.
The flight from Bali was delayed resulting in you missing the connecting flight to Christchurch.
The rescheduled onward flight from Brisbane was then 9 hours later than the original time.
Consider this in the context of European flights.
Example Dubai to Manchester via Frankfurt. If the flight from Dubai to Frankfurt is delayed, there are probably many onward flights from Frankfurt to Manchester which you can be rescheduled to. Meeting the 4-hour commitment is plausible.
Consider the reverse, Manchester to Dubai via Frankfurt. If the flight from Manchester to Frankfurt is delayed, there are probably fewer alternative flights to Dubai to reschedule to. Meeting the 4-hour commitment might simply not be possible.

My read of Trip.com's self transfer guarantee just covers flight rebooking / meals / transport / accommodation subject to limits and conditions, to get you to your final destination. Eg if flight 1 was late meaning you lost your flight 2 ticket and had to buy another. In your case with a flexi ticket, this was already covered and aside from some small meals etc, there was nothing extra provided by the guarantee. It does not provide for compensation just for arriving late.
