On line booking used 2 separate airlines, second missed because of delay by first
I booked with Trip.com Bali to Christchurch, NZ via Brisbane, Australia. They issued 2 tickets with different Airlines. Delay by 1st flight meant too late for 2nd flight. Had to wait 9 hours for next flight.
Neither airline are liable for delay compensation. Trip.com on chat are not accepting request for refund.
Any suggestions?

did you buy a through ticket or 2 separate tickets?

You had to wait 9 hours for the second flight, but did you have to pay again or was the original ticket transferred?

If this was a self-transfer then you carry the risk
Often 5 hours+ is suggested as a 'good' gap between self-connecting flights to build in some contingency in case of any delays. How long did you have scheduled between flights?
Any refund for the missed flight would be based on the fare rules of that ticket for no-shows…very possibly this ticket was non-refundable.
Might be worth checking your travel insurance policy to see if it offers any cover for this situation.

If the ticket was purchased due to a price which was much lower than others chances are its self transfer and any missed flights are down to the ticket holder.

When you book a 'connecting' flight on Trip.com, in the flight information (before payment) it will show either
a - Transfer in xxx, No need to collect and re-check baggage
or
b - Self-Transfer in xxx, Collect and re-check baggage
The first is a protected connection if there are delays on the first flight…you should be rebooked at no additional costs to yourself, the second is not.

Does their guarantee apply to your booking?

Luckily I had booked a flexi ticket so I was booked on to the next flight 9 hours later.

I bought a through ticket and was charged one inclusive price.

The cheaper ticket was sold out so fortunately I had purchased a flexi ticket and was able to transfer to a later flight - 11 hours after the first one landed.

So they still got you there on the ticket sold? Why do you think you would be entitled to a refund?
