Sky Q and price increase April 2026
I am confused by the article on MSE about the right to cancel mid-contract if you have Sky Q TV through a satellite when Sky increase the price, as they plan to do by 6%+ in April 2026. I spoke to Sky who told me there is no right to cancel and if I did cancel I would need to pay a fee, equivalent to the outstanding contracted payments (12 months). Does anyone have any clarity on this issue? I have experienced Sky customer services not being the most truthful in the past so I don't tend to take their statements at face value. I should add I don't want to negotiate with them I just don't want to pay for, or receive, any Sky services going forward and Sky TV is the only service I use.

They probably haven't had the memo yet, 100% you can cancel with 30 days notice once advised of the increase on Q or HD+ (or broadband). The following is from my email this morning (have you had notice yet?):-
********************
Effective from 1 April 2026, the service(s) below will have the following price change(s) per month:
Sky Signature
+£2.00
Ultimate TV Pack
+£1.00
We hope you’ll continue to enjoy our services, but if you’re unhappy with these changes, you can visit sky.com/changes or call us on 0344 824 4450 to discuss or cancel your subscription. If you’re within your minimum contract period, call us within 30 days of getting this email to avoid early termination charges. Unless you tell us otherwise, your Sky subscription will continue as normal.
*****************
We’re making some changes to how and when you can leave while in a minimum term. See below for more detail.
Netflix has increased its costs to us. If Netflix is part of your Sky package, this increase will be reflected in your monthly bill.IMPORTANT CHANGES TO YOUR SKY SUBSCRIPTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All these changes come into effect on 1 April 2026. Please read these carefully and keep a copy of this notice for your records as you may need to refer to it in future.
Sky Q and Sky+ Terms and Conditions Update
We are changing when and how you can end your subscription. You’ll be able to end your contract during your minimum term without paying early termination charges if we make a change to the terms and conditions which is not exclusively to your benefit, unless it is purely administrative in nature or directly imposed by law, and we have notified you of that right. You will need to let us know within one month of receipt of our notice. If you end it for any other reason during the minimum term we may charge you an early termination charge.

When Virgin Media BB/phone advised of a mid contract increase I cancelled with them with no trouble at all.
I'm now with Sky for BB/phone and if i'm not happy with any new price in the future I would change provider and expect to be like VM treatment.

For BB that's always been the case, the TV part is a very recent adition for HD+ & Q boxes.

Have you received your email with the price rises, you can't cancel until you get that, then you have 30 days. You may not get your email for a week or two as I think they send them out in batches, I haven't had mine yet.

I haven't had any email notification yet of Q increases but Future Bills has shown expected rises for a month now.

Fantastic, I phoned this morning and the automated system (after going around in circles) found my account, decided that I was still in minimum term and couldn't help me. This is on the 0344 824 4450 number given on their own website regarding the April price rise…
Currently on Whatsapp with them.

Hmm, just realised something from the email (dated 20/02/2026). It says:-
***********************************
"We hope you’ll continue to enjoy our services, but if you’re unhappy with these changes, you can visit sky.com/changes or call us on 0344 824 4450 to discuss or cancel your subscription. Unless you tell us otherwise, your Sky subscription will continue as normal."
**********************************
It points to the changes in the T&Cs at the bottom of the email:-
"IMPORTANT CHANGES TO YOUR SKY SUBSCRIPTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Are they going to try and play games around the date of the increase being later than 30 days from notification?

The India(?) based agent I'm talking to is claiming I can't cancel.
Now being transferred from the "Values Team" to the "Retentions Team", why couldn't their automated system put me through to them in the first place?
Great, there may be a 60 minute wait for a response…

Got the email, made the call, told a pack of lies by Sky customer services claiming cancellation only applied to broadband (it implies the same in the email) and there is a cancellation fee for Sky Q, got put through to their 'loyalty' team, read them the link in the email to Sky's terms and conditions and it has now been cancelled.

The automated phone number that Sky list on their website about the price rises told me the same thing laughably, it in effect ended the call. I went on Whatsapp and got told the same by the first indian(?) call centre agent in the 'values team'. Thankfully the 'retentions team' guy she put me through to knew his job. I took a better deal than I was on with no April increase.
