Problems with new car, can we return?
Hello,
We bought a corsa 2023 (December registration date) on last week in November from motor point.
Test drive was fine, on the day we collected we just drove it home and again fine.
the next day within seconds of driving an amber warning lights came on (a car inside a circle) and a brief message saying “spare wheel fitted, driver aids disabled.
Of corse we then check wheels (no spare identified. Checked tyre pressures etc.
this light coming on turns off cruise control, and de activates lane assist so that warning light also come on.
We notified the dealership the following day and they had it back in that week but couldn’t Identify on their machines what the issue was.
following this we booked in into a vaxhaull garage who could see us sooner than our local one, they couldn’t identify the issue but suggested we change the front tyre as the tread depth was different to the other front tyre and this could by why.
we took it straight to quick fit who couldn’t find any issue with the tyre and said that this would not fix it and they were convinced was a system problem.
So I wasnt happy to pay £150 to replace a tyre based on that discussion.
Motorpoint then suggested taking it to the main Vaxhaull garage which is my local one as they have better computers.
we did this mid January (earliest apt available) they then said we had to wait for vaxhaull warranty to respond to the with the next steps.
We ended up having to chase them almost two weeks after and they said for us to bring it back for further checks that the warranty wanted them to run. His words were tick box checks which’s were really basic but they have to do them to proceed.
This is today and I’ve dropped the car for them to ask me why it’s been booked in!
They have the original details of the first apt, but no idea why I was advised to book it back in. I’ve left it with them as I’ve said the warning Light is still on and I need to know what to do myself.
im now wondering what do I do?
I’ve called the main customer care for vaxhaull and they’ve logged some sort of case.
im confused as to why a car was designed to have this warning light but they have no idea why it’s on or how to fix it!!
If they still have no luck today am I then within my rights to return to motor point and ask for a refund/replacement?
I’m worried keeping the car would hinder any future mots and of corse I couldn’t sell it either. Plus I wanted the cruise control
For long motorway journeys tbh.
Sorry it’s so long,
Thank you for reading and any advice would be gratefully received!

Post up the make and sizes read off all the tyres, and do you know what the tread depth difference is on the front?
As the one dealer said I would also guess the Corsa is using the ABS ring to spot a significant rotational difference and is just wrongly identifying it as being the spare fitted.
A mid range Corsa tyre should be less than £150 but I'd want to be matching them up if possible. Difficult to tell for sure without fitting one.

jus to add the light isn’t always on, it comes on maybe 90% of the time.
When it does clear, it is when the car is restarted. But this Does not always happen. And it most likely returns when u start to drive.

Make sure the new tyres are on the same axle (front would be my choice).

If it's this one, that is the forward alert system. Most likely the sensor is miss alighed or obstructed in some way.

Simple answer: no
There must be an identified fault, for the dealer to be obligated to refund for a returned car.
If Motorpoint, 2x Vauxhall dealers and a tyre fitter can't identify the fault, then you are nowhere. Having said that, did any of them test drive the car, given that you say the fault occurs quite a lot?

Try this in the short term. Then get the module realigned or replaced (can be expensive hopefully motorpoint will fix it.

Thank you, we will check these areas the weekend. I’ve had the car washed a couple of times but it’s possible there’s dirt somewhere!
I’m so worried that there’s a huge cost coming😩 but the ideas of cleaning areas/ changing the tyre is something we can do, and hope they work!0
