BA App on iPhone
Booked to fly with BA over Easter. Went to check on the App to look for any news. App said I needed to update. However, the update button in the App Store was not present - only 'open'. Pressing this resulted in a vicious circle of 'please update' and 'open'. Got online with the BA Webchat and it turns out that the BA App will now only run on iPhone 13 or later (iOS18). My iPhone X has iOS16 and so will not work. Having been nudged to use the App over the past few years I'm not happy to be told that I now need to upgrade my iPhone. Other operators are (currently) happy with iPhone X. I know I can get boarding passes via other means, but the live notifications I used to get via the App will no longer happen.

The iPhone X is ten years old and is no longer supported with updates by Apple.
Maybe time to think about a replacement?

The reason is that your phone doesn't support newer versions of the app due to the version of iOS you are stuck on as the phone isn't getting later iOS updates due to the age of the phone.

A bit of an exaggeration - it was sold from November 2017 to September 2018, so more like 7.5 to 8.25 years old, but yes, it's not exactly current and recent loss of support status will lead to many other apps also no longer being usable on it, especially those with security requirements.

I'm using an iPhone 12 with iOS 26. My BA app works, so it’s not iPhone 13 or later, though it may very well be iOS 18 or later.

Presumably you can still get the same info by logging in via a web browser?

That's what the BA Rep said and that's fine if all I want to do is download the boarding pass and stick it in my wallet. However, when Heathrow was out of commission due to the fire last year I was at bag drop in Munich at 6:00 am. Needless to say there was a scramble to get rebooked and safari is not the best tool for that. Also with the App the notifications come through automatically.
Could also be that iPhone12 is OK as the App does require iOS18. Maybe the Rep mistyped - my wife has an iPhone 13 and she's on iOS26.
I'll limp on with my iPhone X for a while longer - my regular flying will stop in summer anyway due to retirement. Maybe I'll get a new iPhone as a present!
Thanks to all who commented.
