I could well be mixing them up fifeken! I only the basics really but seems like I don't know much of that. I think I'll just buy it and give it a go then if it doesn't work I will send it back. Thanks to everyone for your help.

That could be a rash assumption, I tend to use 5G for my phone when I'm at home as it seems more reliable than my wifi connection (also the same 5G signal, but through a TP-Link powerline adapter in the parts of the house where the phone gets most use) unless I need to be connected to wifi, such as for some updates. The OP seems unclear how their phones connect although given the mention of a Virgin router it's most likely to be wifi and it is almost certain that the doorbell will work.

My experience of 2.4 devicesis they often fail or go wrong if the router is using the same SSID for both bands.

Solution is simple, just use a different name for the 2.4 Wifi and all will be sweet.

This affects Alexa devices (switches and plugs etc), Ring Doorbells and Eufy I tried, some Ring Doorbells work for a while but go wrong if a router is rebooted.

Eufy are a good brand and in my experience far quicker than Ring to send you the notification.

It is not that difficult, you put in IP of the router in your browser, enter the password provided by your ISP, go to the wifi settings and usually un-tick a box, then put a different name for the 2.4 and save.

I've decided to buy the Eufy E340 dual camera 2k doorbell with chime. I also want a doorbell for the back door as the E340 will be used at the front. I am thinking of getting the Eufy C31 with 32GB sd card. When using the C31 will it chime by using the E340 chime supplied or will I need to buy a separate charm for the C31?

Can I use both a Efuy E340 doorbell and Eufy C31 with just one chime unit ?

Yes, you absolutely can! The Eufy E340 and Eufy C31 are both part of Eufy’s newer ecosystem that uses the MiniBase Chime (also known as the T8023).

    How It Works

Because these doorbells connect to the chime via Wi-Fi (rather than a direct one-to-one radio link used in older models), the chime acts more like a "mini hub." This allows for a flexible setup:

    • Multi-Device Pairing: You can pair multiple doorbells to a single chime unit within the Eufy Security app.
    • Differentiation: You can usually assign different ringtones to each doorbell in the app settings so you know whether someone is at the front door (E340) or another entrance (C31).
    • Storage Sharing: Since the MiniBase Chime has a microSD card slot, both doorbells can back up their footage to that single chime unit (supporting cards up to 128GB).

Wi-Fi Strength: Both doorbells and the chime need to be on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Since the chime acts as the storage bridge, try to place it in a central location between the two doorbells.

    • App Setup: To set this up, add the Chime to your app first, then go into the settings for each doorbell and select the MiniBase Chime as your Indoor Chime source.
