Premium bonds after bereavement

my dad passed away recently unfortunately

my mum noticed my dad has quite a lot in premium bonds, which she now gets

she just wants to cash them in so the money goes to her current account

she is 100% computer illiterate and doesn't want to do nanything online

can you do it over the phone instead and is it straightforward ?

she is scared it will be too complicated for her

what info will they require from her?

Thanks

NS&I will require her to obtain probate before releasing the funds. Is she the executor/administrator for Dad's estate?

My recently passed husband has some premium bonds. I am executrix and not needing probate - simple will. What do I have to provide for NS&I?

Unless it has changed there is a form you can download and complete - could you print this for her?

Note you can leave the bonds in the draws for up to twelve months, if your mother has no immediate use for the money then she might want to do that.

You may well find you do need Probate if only for NS&I. Best to contact them to establish whether they are willing to pay out without Probate - don’t be too hopeful!

You will need to obtain probate if the amount of premium bonds exceeds £5000.

all the information you need is on this page

To the OP, it can be done by post. There is a link on the page which you can use to check what you need to do and send.

My understanding is that you can leave PBs in for a year after the holder's death if anyone here wishes to do that.
