Charge your EV from home

Knowing Leeds and its thousands of terraced properties, with ever more cars than spaces, there is no guarantee you will be able to park outside of your own house when you really do need to charge it.

Why is that lady holding the charge plug in the same way as you need to hold the nozzle when filling an ICE car with fuel?

I understand that the cable is long enough to stretch a little further than your own home.

If the ducting works as advertised then no one will trip, however the bigger issue will be the light hearted discussion amongst neighbours when trying to park their car close enough for whatever length of cable they may have.
As we all know parking is never a contentious issue so I can't see there being any real issues. 🤔
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1 -
It seems a really trivial problem to solve - park your car three streets away from home - run your cable to the conveniently placed socket, scan the QR code on the side and your car charges at 1.2x the prevailing rate, with the profit going to the household you’ve plugged into.

I heard that the government was considering making this sort of thing allowed everywhere, because some councils are dragging their feet.

Seems likely - unless it’s written in blood councils like to “interpret” their own policies to suit themselves with everything from planning to education.

Lets face it, electric vehicles and property with no off street parking just don't work very well together. There's no harm in looking for solutions but everything I've seen so far isnt great.

For the “average” motorist covering 7,400 miles a year then they will need to plug in once every 10 days or so. If you can find a spot next to your house once every ten days then it might be do-able.

In the long term, this probably isn't the mass solution - lamppost charging is more likely to provide comprehensive coverage for on-street parking.
