Confusion about parking in a disabled parking bay?
Hi all.
Someone said as long as you've got a blue badge, it's absolutely legal for you to park in a disabled bay outside someone's house; even if that bay was done at the behest of a certain housekeeper in the street.
If they came out and said you can't park there, would they be wrong?
Thanks.

That is correct, it's not a reserved space for a certain person.

it depends - some are specific to a particular badge/vehicle/permit but this would be shown with a sign

They would be wrong but they might also be rather cross. Hence I tend to avoid parking in them even if allowed, in case I came back to find something amiss with my car.

There might be other restrictions not related to the disable bay, but as long as those are fulfilled any Blue Badge holder can use it.
Many of these types of bays are advisory only

Yes. They wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Haha.

In theory it is possible to have a very specific parking restriction (think a tiny residents' parking zone, where the permit is only issued to one house). But that would be clear from the signage - if it's just a blue badge sign then it's first come first served.

Both my wife and myself have Blue Badges but would be wary of using a single marked bay in the suburbs - I have come across them were they are intended to assist particular mobility issues

That could apply anywhere, does a BB holder refuse to park in a bay because someone more disabled miight need it?

Most of these bays are put outside someone's house for a reason, but that doesn't mean that they are reserved.
It could be that the person for whom it was intended no longer uses it, and the markings have not been removed.
Or that they are out and about.Either way, I don't think they are meant to be reserved for a specific person, and another disabled blue badge holder could use them.
But it would be a bit wrong to come home and see another disabled user in the parking space that was put outside your house lol.
