What if the extension lead is top quality but the dishwasher is knock off tat? What if the extension lead and the dishwasher are top quality but the house electrics were installed by a numpty? The what iffery is irrelevant. If you buy a suitably rated extension lead with the appropriate CE/UKCA mark on it (and preferably from a reputable supplier) then there's no reason to be concerned about your house exploding. Yes, there are better ways to do it, but an extension lead is a perfectly acceptable and convenient way of solving the issue at hand.

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll leave it until my electrician is back and ask if he can extend the cables, then then I know it’s done properly.

The length of the dishwasher cable may be that long as it does move out so far, but last time I tried my husband told me not to pull it out further and at that point I couldn’t get behind to clean. This dishwasher is 11 years old so maybe the cable was shorter back then, I’m not sure.

The old way used to be to rewire the appliances with a longer power cable. However now no one can be trusted and manufacturers make that a far more difficult task than it used to be with sealed cabinets, moulded cables and plugs the alternative is power sockets inside cupboards.

Quite a few here with different terminations and lengths.

I bought some with fused European plugs and changed them over when we were in Germany. Changed back to UK 13A when we returned. Miele original parts appropriately rated and simple to do.

But really, how often do you need access behind?

Personally if I were tasking an electrician I might just ask to hardwire it with sufficient length so I could pull the machine out fully with a an isolation switch above counter level.

You pay them for their competence and to provide a safe installation, do not make this up yourself and have an issue.
