HD-DVD back catalogue discs become impossible to find. Yes same can be said about laserdisk and betamax, they are every where. Loads and loads web sites selling them. It harder to find !!!!!! on-line.
But DVDs are still available are they not? How is it different from buying a DVD player/upscaler?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

As far as I can see the future of movies will be downloads from our ever faster internet, so any dvd format may only be knocking around for 10 years tops? There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

ok,
a) how old are you?
b) is daddy going to buy you a new Blu-Ray player soon?
c) if you're honestly telling us you knew blu-ray was going to win from the outset, then you're a liar.
d) do you have any idea about the drawbacks of blu-ray and how it is going to hurt small time indie film makers. Here's a hint - google "AACS"Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
The American porno industry apparently favours Blu-ray and that was one of the same reasons Betamax died, because they chose VHS. It's a very influential industry in this case.
Here's a link to how to convert your obsolete HD-DVDs to Bluray disks:

I also happen to believe that eventually optical disks will be replaced by on-demand services for movies. When this will be is anyone's guess, but I look forward to having no disks at all.0 -
yes buts thats a looooong way off - as in 10-15 years until we do away with discs for content delivery.
People like discs. They're very easy, and quick to use. They're not dependent on a solid internet connection, they can last for years and years if you look after them, you can't accidently delete them, take almost no physical space to store (if you use slim line jewel cases), you can move them from one place to another very easily (how easily can you move 4GB+ size digital files?), good for backup purposes, and last but not least: very cheap!
The list goes on and on
In order to go completely digital you'd have to find a viable solution to all these issues and moreHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Are you sure about that, I thought it was the other way around and Sony are still prudish about it and refuse to manufacture !!!!!! discs themselves.
So in fact this is one of the few times that the !!!!!! industry got it wrong/made no impact.

Yesterday Play.com's Toshiba HD-EP30 HD DVD Player player £250
Today £80 + 2 DVDs
What does that tell you? Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

That they're cheap enough to get instead of a DVD player/upscaler replacement. It's actually cheaper at Amazon as well.
People get so dramatic about legacy technologies that they sometimes miss that they can still be useful and a cheap interim compared to spending a fortune on current or bleeding edge technologies."She is quite the oddball. BigBouncyBall wrote: »Why? - People who have invested in HD-DVD have been enjoying fantastic quality movies for over 2 years. They will continue to enjoy watching those movies for years to come. The players and discs are not just going to self destruct or stop working.
Also can you stop comparing betamax and HD-DVD? This 'war' is quite different to the Beta vs VHS debate.
I think you will find that the person you are having a pop at said he felt sorry for people who had just bought an HD-DVD player, therefore they wouldnt have been enjoying fantastic quality movies for over two years.
VHS v Betamax - this is quite the same. People bought a format, the format died, people had obsolete video players. Whats different?0
