HD storage format war is over

Shame really, HD-DVD was better than Blu-ray in almost everyway, its was a small difference in most cases except in sound quality, HD-DVD had a much better audio codec. HD-DVD was the chosen successor to the DVD format, only Sony have come and taken that away... but at least its not some Apple rubbish we are being force fed.
Apple is a member of the Blu Ray Association. And BR has larger capacity and faster read/write times than HD-DVD. So I'm wondering what "most cases" HD DVD was better? And which specific audio codec are you talking about? They each support various codecs. The only way HD DVD was better was that it was cheaper to make because it was easier to retool and adapt current DVD manufacturing lines and each disc was quicker to make. Blu Ray being the more sophisticated and hence more difficult technology needed brand new lines which are also slower. HD DVD only has an advantage in the manufacturing as far as I can see, not the quality of the technology.
I wonder if they're going to be bringing out Heroes on Blu Ray then, I was looking forward to that in Hi Def."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

there are a lot of people who don't have a clue what they are talking about when it comes to Hi-def DVD formats. Both have *fantastic* quality for the end user to enjoy.
The only people that need to be the decision makers in this debate are the movie makers (and not just the hollywood studios), Video experts and technical masters of the industry.
For any lay person to be saying one is worse than the other without studying the pros and cons of each in GREAT detail (there are reams and reams of specifications to pour over), is simply getting swept up in the marketing campaign for one of the formats (usually blu-ray as sony have spend zillions pushing their format)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If the HD DVD players come down further in price I'll definitely be tempted to get one. There's plenty of titles and you can still use them to upscale DVDs. Especially put into context that the cheaper HD DVD players are already less than what I paid for my budget range DVD player."She is quite the oddball. Sorry but I have to disagree with you 100%.
1) Blu-Ray uses the same Audio/Video codecs as HD-DVD.
MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), VC-1
2) Blu-Ray can have a higher transfer data rate the HD-DVD.
Blu-Ray 54Mbps
HD-DVD 36Mbps
3) Blu-Ray can store more data.
So content providers can use less compressed ratio's with Blu-Ray then would with HD-DVD.0 -

Why ow why, you will not be able buy new HD-DVD to watch soon.
The best Blu-Ray player is a PS3 at £290. You can control it with joypad but I had to get the Bluetooth remote for PS3 at £15. All at play.com
I got a PS3 for my self and within 3 months 4 other members of my family got one. The importance of this is I am the only one who in to computers in the family the rest are in to watching movie's! They all have these movie pass things. They did not get a PS2.0 -

Far too expensive for my tastes. I'm not tempted at all by the PS3. I think you missed the point of my post and what I've already taken into consideration. There's losts of titles out there that are only on HD DVD with no sign of them ever going to BR. I don't see why HD DVD isn't cheap enough to have as well as a BR player in the future. My existing DVDs haven't stopped working and I'm sure any HD DVDs I'd get wouldn't stop working either."She is quite the oddball. Yes this is true but... You see they would have to retool the plant every 5 years due to the fact it cheaper to do so then keep on paying higher and higher maintenance cost. It just a bit of FUD that HD-DVD published to put some uncertainty in the public mind about Blu-Ray.0 -

If an executive in hollywood thinks that way I dont think need to know what shareholds will do.
Trust my word this will happen:
1) Duplication of new titles will stop happing soon.
2) Duplication of old HD-DVD will stop soon.
3) Expect every HD-DVD on Blu-Ray in next 12 months.
If want to buy a door-stop that your business.0 -

Because it will suddenly stop working??? My old DVD player still seems to work ok and I haven't bought any new DVDs in quite a while. Are you sure that's how it works, if they stop making the players then all the players in the world can't play the discs any more?
It's practically worth it purely as an upscaler DVD replacement without even buying any HD DVDs which is what you seem to fail to grasp from the point of my post. I can't afford to spend frivolously on a BR player as they're still far too expensive. PS3 isn't exactly an attractive prospect and the current ones are actually worse spec than previously.
We're not talking about the same thing as the reasons the early adopters bought them so using admonishments as if the same justifications are being used is just really not getting it.
And putting it into a more long term context, the Blu Ray format will probably be obsolete itself way before people's HD DVD players stop working and HD DVD back catalogue discs become impossible to find."She is quite the oddball. HD-DVD back catalogue discs become impossible to find. Yes same can be said about laserdisk and betamax, they are every where. Loads and loads web sites selling them. It harder to find !!!!!! on-line.0
