Should I pay £170 UKPC debt recovery?

I have a lease car and I received a letter from VW to let me know I need to pay £60 for parking over a line while shopping at Matalan with my baby. I didn’t even realise I was parked over the line due to needing space to take out the baby and the buggy.

I ignored the fine as I was so busy. I now have debt recovery letters saying I owe £170. I’ve read the forum about parking tickets and I can’t see to understand what I need to do. I’m feeling very stressed and exhausted with my baby that I am contemplating paying the £170 to stop the letters.

I’ve contacted Matalan who keep saying appeal, but I’ve gone past the appeal time. I’m at my wits end, so not sure what to do.

Please help a tired mother!!!!!

Don’t pay them anything. Both the £60 and the £170 are scams.

The “Newbie” thread details what should do but Plan A is to complain to store and to the landowner. Both will be able to get this invoice cancelled if they do wish

You do NOT pay UKPC or a rogue trader debt collector ...... the added £70 is a scam which is called the OSNER SCAM and approved by the not fit for purpose BPA

If you get a court claim come back here

As above  ignore the debt collectors,  wait for the Letter of Claim or Money Claim

    Question:

Should I pay £170 UKPC debt recovery?

    Answer:

    No.

You will never have to pay and it isn't a fine.

I haven't even read your post and don't need to!

  • Thank you for all the replies. I will sleep a little easier tonight. I haven’t paid but was very close to. I will see if the letters stop or if I receive any court claim letters.

They may stop, but its extremely likely to start with a Letter of Claim giving you 30 days notice,  followed by a Money Claim,  eventually

There is no advice needed yet. No steps yet. The NEWBIES thread shows everyone pics of those daft threatogram letters and positively begs for no posts about them! Please...

There will NEVER be a court hearing before a judge but there will be a court claim this year. From DCB Legal. Not from DR Plus.

You must not ignore the Claim Form. Google it and look at images so you know what one looks like.

How old was the baby at the time? there may be an equality act angle to this depending upon the child's age ie under 6 months (as far as i know)
