Anyone have experience or advice on unlocking an iPhone 6 which is currently tied to the Vodaphone network.
Currently using an O2 PAYG Classic sim on an old Nokia but they have sent me a message that they are turing off 2g & 3g so need to find a 4g alternative.  As I already have this old iPhone 6 laying around thought I might as well try getting that going.

Have you tried the O2 SIM in the iPhone?

    Vodafone unlock page

    Yes tried it, errors with:
SIM not supported. The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server.
That unlock page unfortunately requires a Vodaphone account.
    Edit:
Update, that page does actually allow me to apply for an unlock code.  When it asks for "What type of Vodafone account do you have?" just need to click on "Personal or small business" and then answer the questuions from there.

So get free payg voda sim and create voda account to unlock device.
Also, its bad idea to use old iphone6 as it will NEVER get any security updates.

Work through the Vodafone unlock page - don't think you need a Vodafone account.

Thanks, turns out it doesn't; that page does actually allow me to apply for an unlock code.  When it asks for "What type of Vodafone account do you have?" just need to click on "Personal or small business" and then answer the questuions from there.

Have tried three times now to obtain this unlock code. Each time Vodafone send an email asking me to verify the email address, which I do, and then I get a message that the unlock code will be send within ten days.

So far I have done this three times but no unlock code is ever sent. There also doesn't seem to be any way of contacting them to escalate this issue.

Looks like the only thing I can do with this phone is to get a Vodafone SIM. Do they still do a plain PAYG SIM are they all monthly subscription SIMs now?

Not really, £2/day if you use it (PAYG1) or a monthly auto renew (PAYGPlus)

Asda Mobile (a Voda MVNO) still have PAYG, cost you a fiver to find out if it works.

iPhones do not use unlock codes. The change is made on Apple’s activation server. Once you’ve applied for the unlock and it’s been confirmed: To unlock the phone, you put a different networks SIM in (the phone must be connected to WiFi)

I should caution that the iPhone 6 comes from a period where you need a specific carrier profile for the voice over 4G to work I don’t know whether it is still available . If there’s no option to turn on or off voice over 4G then Make sure the iPhone 6 is on iOS12 (the latest version) and then go to Settings/General/About If there is a carrier profile update you should see a message asking you to update
