Sounds a bit odd.  Cheques are usually valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
What is the payment supposed to be for - were you expecting it?  Who's details are on the letter?

I can't immediately see what the scam would be, but it does sound a little unusual.
If it's genuine, do you have a friend or family member who could pay it into their account for you?  It's a long time since I've deposited a non-sterling cheque, but there was no problem in doing so - although there was a fee charged.
It depends on the type of cheque ("cheque"). Unless the other person has the same name that won't work.

What I would suggest is any non-US customer who cashes this in successfully may get a communication from Amazon to pay it back, if they arent in the UK. For the sake of about £40 (even less once fees are removed), is it worth the potential bother?

I received a cheque for $51 as a settlement payment from Amazon, but my bank (Barclays) wont accept it as they no longer accept foreign currency cheques. I have tried to take this up with the people whose details are on the letter that accompanied the cheque, but I can't seem to be able to contact them? The letter also says that the cheque will be void after February 21.
Am I being naive and this is just a scam?
There was a thread on this last week. NatWest/RBS and Lloyds/Halifax/BoS seem to be the last mainstream banks accepting foreign cheques.
