Ask your bank to send you a chequebook.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I have no other purpose for a checque book and have not required one in over a decade. This is just a gov department who hasn't modernised.
They are not going to change their way of working just for you so what are you going to do if you are not willing to send either a cheque or a postal order ?

So rather than take the easy option, you're going to go with the point of principle and make things harder...?

    Okay... Good luck.
Sorry but, why would I want to order a cheque book for one single transaction, wait 5 working days for delivery (plus potential additional 7 days for post office to deliver to my home)?

I don't expect them to do so and have not stated that I would not use a postal order. I'm just rather disappointed that it can only be either or. But then that is the English way, as no-one in this country dare stand up and be counted, but would rather sit and quietly take the beating.

Wow, how to make life difficult.

I needed a cheque last year as wanted to give my great niece a present for her 21st birthday.

Took a few days to arrive, very easy.

The bank staff were not sure how to order one though.

    That was funny.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately this bit still has to be done by post V62 form plus £25 (cheque or postal order). Once it’s processed you can tax the car again. Annoying, but sadly normal for DVLA.

    Not difficult.

Order whole cheque book for a single cheque (haven't written a cheque in over 10 years)?

Add to the environmental burden of waste paper/ink?

Have another draw filling object which will just sit there?

    No thanks.

There are plenty of alternatives that you could have given your niece, such as vouchers or, god forbid, some good old fashioned cash.

Yes, funny how Gov presses us all to go digital, yet cannot achieve the same with one of its own departments. But thank-you. I will send form and postal order and await.
