Website/app to track my accounts

I use JioSoft Money and have done for a couple of years when I changed from MS Money. There is a one off cost then free updates. I use it because you can set up regular transactions / transfers and enter then in advance to give you an idea of cash flow. And you can enter one off income / expenditure in advance. I can see where my cash flow is heading and arrange transfers between accounts (eg current to savings) as I need. Various reports can be produced as required, and saved for re-use1

I have a spreadsheet which lists the details of every account I hold and the balance.
Not used for budgeting.
What it (or rather I) doesn't do is record individual payments of interest on those accounts that earn it, something I wish to start capturing.
Would one the above-mentioned apps help here or is it a simple matter of adding entries to 2 columns (date, amount) on each payment?1 -

You can simply enter a transaction for the interest payment. You record it with a category of your choice ("taxable interest", "tax free interest" etc), to distinguish it from your salary, pension etc income. You can then create a report for just the category, for all your accounts or some, for the current or a previous tax year, for any time period you like, for all or some of your providers. Very handy for producing a list of taxable interest for HMRC at a moment's notice - provided of course you have diligently recorded your interest payments as they happened. You also know at any point in time how you are doing against your 0% taxable interest allowance.
By way of an example, below is an extract of my report for the current tax year. It took less than a couple of minutes to create and save the report, and I can use it to set up a report for the next tax year in seconds. I don't record the time it takes me to enter the individual interest payments on the respective accounts but am certain it is less than trying to find all the tax certificates, it's a lot less stressful than scrambling for the figures when they are needed, and it's great to feel in control.
This is from AceMoney but I would expect that other personal finance software has similar functionality. You could probably also extend your own spreadsheet to allow you to pull a similar report - provided you record all your interest payments.4 -
Trying to download the install file - Chrome, Malwarebytes & Windows Defender (a rare "triple") have all said it's a bad idea.ColdIron said:I been using AceMoney for 12 years. I use a spreadsheet too, just have a couple of rows to the side with all the accounts that pay interest monthly with a sum of monthly totals and cumulative totals so I know what I would need to be taxed onflaneurs_lobster said:I have a spreadsheet which lists the details of every account I hold and the balance.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I’ve started using the Monzo app to monitor all
my accounts and my credit reports. Works great but it does cost £3 a month for the plus account to be able to do all that.0 -

That's ok as long as you don't use accounts Monzo doesn't support. Also, if for any reason Monzo blocks your account (not unheard of), you could be up the creek without a paddle. For this reason, I would never use a bank to monitor all my accounts, even if they did support all the ones I have. I would recommend you have at least a regular independent backup, e.g. a printout or export if they offer an export option.0 -

Are you on the right site? Both my Chrome and my Firefox download the install file without any warning. No warning from Windows Defender either.

I’ve heard about them blocking accounts but it’s usually for a specific reason and I’m sure other banks are known to do the same. Monzo seem quite popular from what I’ve seen. I used to use Emma for all my tracking and budgeting but I find it too expensive now and it still doesn’t do some of what Monzo does like splitting categories unless I go for a top level subscription which is even more money. I don’t want anything I have to enter transactions into manually. Tried that with a spreadsheet. Did my head in. I have had a NatWest account for decades and a few years ago I opened a Chase account mainly for their higher savings interest rate at the time but that’s bad now. Current account is decent.friolento said:Smvthephotoman said:I’ve started using the Monzo app to monitor all

Yes, thanks. Double-checked that I was where I thought I was and clicked through the warnings - evaluation copy of AceMoney now installed.friolento said:flaneurs_lobster said:

No idea why my laptop threw a hissy-fit, don't often have cause to install new Windows software so maybe just because it was novel.0
