Is the debt payment plan a DAS? Affordability complaints work for those as well.

Start saving up some money each month, this is the secret to getting through a long payment plan, living without credit means putting money aside in the good and average months for the bad ones
Yeah its a DAS. I thought they wouldnt work since its a separate scheme so that is good to know! Thank you.

Yes already started putting money away and honestly just not having this huge debt over my shoulder has made such a difference. Thanks again 😊

A DAS is essentially a regulated debt management plan in Scotland.

There were plans to introduce them to England and Wales, but so far nothing has progressed on that front, and here they remain an informal debt solution.

But I agree you should complain about any accounts that may be deemed unaffordable, the lower you can get those balances the better, and by saving on the side, you can still make settlement offers to creditors further down the line, thus reducing the time it takes to complete the DAS.

Should I start the process now of affordability complaints? Or wait until I start officially paying my DAS and then start?

Strict time limits apply to complaints handling, if you're going to do it, do it sooner rather than later.

Hi Rachel - well done for taking control of things and most of all for being upfront with your husband. It's what we always advise - take steps to put a solution in place and then be open and honest. It almost always ends up with a far better outcome than if the other party finds out accidentally - even if that one is worked past the damage to the trust is never quite fixed, when that occurs.

I'm really pleased that he had dealt constructively with the situation, and that you can now move forwards.
