I've been away for Christmas and didn't use my laptop.
Now I'm back and I've noticed there have been some update:
the bottom bar is different but more importantly all the folders (documents, pictures, downloads etc.) are empty

.

.Did I need to do a backup because big changes were expected?
Useless to say I'm in trouble. Is it possible to get access in a different way?
Thanks in advance for your help.

too late to do a backup but if you done one recently try restoring it0

try a system restore.
- Open System Restore: Search for "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and open it, or run
rstrui.exe. - Start Restore: In the System Protection tab, click the System Restore button, then Next.
- Choose a Point: Select a restore point from the list (check "Show more restore points" if needed).
0 - Open System Restore: Search for "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and open it, or run

What maybe happened is that after the update Windows failed to load the original user profile and silently created a temporary or fresh one instead. From the OP's point of view it looks like the same account, but under the bonnet it is a different profile, so Documents, Pictures, Downloads all appear empty.1

And how can I look "under the bonnet" and hopefully find the different profile under which Documents etc. appear?Vitor said:What maybe happened is that after the update Windows failed to load the original user profile and silently created a temporary or fresh one instead. Create a restore point, then follow
bazdvd's advice. That way if it goes wrong you've still got a backup.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I would sign out of Windows, select Start , select your user picture or the Accounts icon, and select Sign out and then log back in with the correct account credentials, even if the picture and email address shown looks correct.cisko65 said:
