If your sister is pacing around at night then the help from the GP and mental health seem crucial. As it's a wait for help from the local authority then she doesn't need to wait to be better before applying for the careers assessment, as it will take time to be arranged. Encourage her to contact them soon to start the process.  You are feeling unwell yourself from this so maybe to be well she will need the situation to improve?

Hi Katsu, thanks for your post. There has been at least one carer's assessment in the last 3 years but nothing came of it. GP seems to be pinning his hopes on her eating normally which isn't happening at the moment. His referral to mental health may or may not help. Apparently they are coming tomorrow morning. I'm dreading the result being you are fairly ok and the waiting list for what you need is 9 months. Hopefully I am too cynical...

A carers assessment isn’t around her own direct support needs, It’s around  her role as a carer. When you say nothing came of it, you need to check what that means in practice because if she has no eligible needs the local authority has to give that information in writing to give every chance to challenge it. And if she does have me, there should be a written assessment showing what those needs are and how the local authority are planning to meet them. in many cases that can be just sign posting but they can be practical helping him there as well, although that would also be means tested.

    Hi Elsien,

Not sure what you meant re if she does have me? MIght be a typo. I haven't seen any written assessments but my father's savings mean he would have to pay for any help. He downscaled his morning carers visits and is 'managing' himself at the moment. At least he is being sensible about the bank stuff. No shift on LPA but I brought it up again today at least, even if it's a firm no.

Blasted Siri again. I need to start checking. Should’ve said “if she has one.”

If nothing came of the carer's assessment in may not have been that good.

Hope the MH team are a bit better.

Sunday Little Sis completed all but one account number for Universal Credit. We agreed to hold one day for MH team but they apparently had postponed the meeting again by another week. According to Little Sis MH team changed their vidit, first to yesterday then to Monday 12th by changing the text. Anyone ever seen this? I am dubious.

Sunday I gave my father the Third party form.. He is not jumping to do anything about it. I will raise it next time I visit.

All 3 of us went to the bank. We were there between 11:40 and 15:20 with a quick break for a snack. My father has done a new sample signature, they unlocked phone banking and a PIN notification and fob are on the way. They helped him do the transactions he wanted. The person was patient and helpful.

Little sis and him tackled her account while I sat nearby. She was quite nasty to me beforehand. I feels like she enjoys all the problems and when a solution is offered doesn't want it. Her essential utilities are transferred to his account but she still needs to cancel the non-essential payments although they printed out her list of payments. I have barely seen them. She has not yet had any charges.

She is not happy about our father taking the essential bills on for now so I keep explaining she has no choice but if we apply for Universal Credit and the lower rate of council tax it will close the gap and she can give him some of the money.

That was me done (in) for the day but progress was made.

She just has to submit the UC claim now - I hope she can do the last little bit without me.

Forgot to add they said they had passports with them but blow me when we needed them they didn't. Cue me and little sis 'dashing' home to get them. Even without my father she is walking incredibly slowly and it felt like it took ages. I paid two lots of parking but less than a tenner is a small price to pay for progress. These problems have been going on since November when the key fob failed.
