TV advertising costs aren't cheap, so that is one expense PC has which a local funeral director probably won't have. Thus it i reasonable to expect a local FD will be cheaper than PC.

We purchased two plans from Pure Cremation. The starting price per plan was £1,995, followed by £100 discount and a £100 shopping voucher. However, the discount didn’t really apply as I was told the £100 ‘discount’ was already included in the price for the one plan. It was a bit convoluted, but it seemed there was no special discount but that one plan acted as a referral for the other. I also had to chase up the shopping voucher, which I did receive.

Yesterday, I received an email offering a free guide on what to do when someone dies. I completed the form, but after selecting the option “No” to receiving their ‘helpful updates and offers’, the form froze and wouldn’t submit. So, despite already being a paid up customer with two policies, it seems I can’t have the guide unless I agree to receive their marketing emails.

These may seem like small issues but taken together they’ve made me feel uncomfortable. As a result, I’m inclined to agree with the previous writer’s view that the company is bottom line focused.

Unfortunately, we’ll never find out what their after sales service is really like, as we’ll be dead.

If I had paid a company £4k up front for something that will be delivered in the (hopefully) far future I'd be more than happy to see that they are focussing on their bottom line.

If you are interested, their last set of accounts is quite enlightening - their proportion of the "death" market is really quite small.

I am fed up of their ads - they must have a large marketing budget, I would sooner go to the local family firm even for collect, crem, scatter- no service.

Then stop watching daytime commercial telly.

They may be irritating but their ads seem to be memorable which is rather the point.

The most irritating and annoying TV advert of all time,

is from 1980 and is still spoken of in awe among ad folk 45 years later - this brand still gets high recognition ratings based solely on this ad.

It's a genuine (appalling) cultural icon.

Even people born this century can recall the ad and (significantly) the brand.

Mum prepaid for a direct cremation with them, after a local independent firm let us down on several aspects with Nan's prepaid attended cremation in 2021.

Having now dealt with Pure Cremation after her recent death, no major complaints but my impression is being a national company has complicated matters and led to some delays.

I'm now thinking of going with a local Co Op direct cremation for myself.

  • @flaneurs_lobster Don't watch day time TV. Do you work for the firm in question?

Ah, not seen this in a while. The old "you don't agree with me 100% about company x therefore you must work for company x" shtick.

Well done, so much easier than having a rational discussion about differing opinions.
