Happy New Year one and all, and thanks to everyone who contributes.

My view on the banning is limited, usually things are deleted before I realise what is happening, but there were some regular, knowledgeable, helpful posters who could also be curt, short and to the point. If they have responded to the same or very similar questions 15 or 20 times previously their displeasure may well show.

Unfortunately new posters - who aren't familiar with these parts - see the curt response, don't recognise the positives the person brings, regard the answer as rude and complain. Sometimes other regulars, who don't necessarily contribute much themselves, join in and also complain about how newbies are being treated.

    A ban then ensues.

It's unfortunate, and we've lost a lot of people with high post counts, who brought a lot to the table, but there are lessons that could be learned all round. Not responding immediately to things that annoy you being one of them.

I've really enjoyed (and learned a lot from) comments and observations by all the aforementioned! I am wondering whether I have a quirky turn of mind in finding wandering the highways and byways of the rules of pension schemes rather fascinating.....

Why have some of these excellent posters been banned?
There was a point when the board had several posters (in the money sections - probably other sections had similar) who would relentlessly try to antagonise regular contributors to provoke a response.   Eventually, the victim would snap and post a snarky response, and the board admin would ban the victim.  Sometimes the troll would get a ban, but they would pop up again with a new board name.

I think I am the only exception to the ban being overturned.   Nowadays, I tend to use the ignore button to those.  If I can't see what they say (and they cant see what I say) then there is less chance of a provoked reaction.

Its a real shame good people get either banned or feel it is too much hassle to continue posting.  We all lose out when experience and common sense are lost.
