I'm having a slow start to the NY with a bit of a headache, but the laundry timing was already planned and started overnight for the cheap electricity, so at least that is getting done! Sadly the cooking isn't - and once the headache is gone I need to walk the poor neglected dog.
However, I have measured for and ordered curtains for the front door (and now realised that I should also have ordered a blind... something to do later maybe!). They'll take a few weeks, but I'll have them here and up before the end of the month and get the benefit of the thermal linings as well as making the hall feel more finished. It's getting close, and I'm slowly working out what needs tweaking.4 -

Okay, so I am going to go through one wardrobe to declutter, then put on a face pack while I walk on the treadmill and then have a shower and get dressed and then do the other wardrobe. My husband can do his wardrobe when he gets up!

Happy New Year 🥳

I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)11 -
Today I'm trying to finish painting the wall. Third coat done.
I'm unhappy to announce that these stupid boxes of relatives stuff is still in my living room, so I've brought that OAT into 2026 with me. I have shipping quotes though so the end is nigh.
I have some big OATs for January, but I don't think I'll list them today, just get the immediate stuff done first.
Although I usually like to hibernate in January I really need to get stuff done to give me some wiggle room when I start my new role in February.
I will also be mostly eating potatoes through January 😂Debts 04/01/25 02/01/26

A nice OAT for me (I don't think we've said what OAT stands for yet in this new thread - Outstanding Annoying Task!)
I sorted out my seed box 😁 FAR too many seeds, as usual 😬 but I do ctually want to grow some stuff this year so I'm being ruthless.
Only keeping seed that's in date, or only went out of date in the last 3 months. Everything else is getting composted, woth some exceptions:
* all flower seeds are getting mixed together for a riot of colour and nonsense. I don't have the inclination to sow and look after individual flower seedlings - I want to focus on veg. So all flower seeds mixed together, including the out of date stuff, because no real reason not to. No idea where this us all getting sown yet 😬😂
* all salad/radish/leeks/beetroot/herbs etc is getting mixed together and grown in the kitchen as microgreens, to be harvested at an inch or two high
That still leaves me with at least 40 packets of seeds 😱 but it has reduced my sense of overwhelm somewhat. I think SIMPLIFY will have to be my gardening word of the year 😂11 -
Oooh … good thinking on the micro greens … I could do similar with my hundreds of similar packets … 🤔😊

I need to get my seed sprouting stuff out and growing. Thanks for the reminder.
My seeds are out all the time, as the tin they are in doesn't really work for me (I only use it because it was my mum's). I need to rethink the system...
I've ordered curtains for the hall door, and a blind for the window as I found fabric that works and want to get them before the fabric is discontinued (which the landing fabric seems to be). Plus it would be nice to have them (with thermal lining!) before the end of the winter. I also ordered table lamps as I probably won't get round to getting the dressing table lamps for my bedroom rewired for ages, and I need another bedside light for the front bedroom. I'll still be short of a couple of lamps, but do have one to be fixed and two to be rewired at some point...7 -
After dinner, we took down the glass lamp shade over the dining room table and washed it. It looks so much fresher now 😊
That’s two out of four done now 😊

2025 was my year for culling the seeds... it was minimally successful. I store mine in a photo storage case, so it's a clear briefcase looking thing that has 8 or 10 different colour smaller cases inside. Each case is then labelled in themes like flower seeds, herb seeds, lettuces, tortoise friendly seeds, misc. I'm not sure I'm describing the case very well, but I love using it and it helps me to stay organised and I don't have seeds spilling out everywhere.
I have been growing pea shoots through winter. I will sow some more and some microgreens probably in the middle of January.
Living room wall is (I think) painted enough. 2 coats with a roller plus 3 times going over with a brush. I looks so much better though. I've been thinking about doing that for about 18 months.Debts 04/01/25 02/01/26

Definitely need more thermal curtainage here between the kitchen and offshot 🙄 I was looking for a pot for the micrograms, and realised just how freezing the offshot was 🥶 got cross and ripped off some of the old brush draught proofing that had bent and was catching, and replaced that, plus all the other edges of the back door, and also the loft hatch, with that draught proof tape. Seems to have had very little effect as the curtain is still wafting 🙄
Not going to do anything else about it tonight but definitely need to sort better curtains!7
