How could they cancel an appointment (the MOT) that has already taken place? And the OP said the text was confirming approval of the additional work.Baldytyke88 said:SparkyMark123 said:
Basically car failed its mot on the 20/12. Needed £1700 worth of repairs panicking as I need these car for work I verbally authorised this over the phone. This was booked in for the 27/12.
having thought about this and upon receiving a confirmation text I decided to cancel and as per text message instructions did so via this method and received a message back informing me this was done.I assume that what you cancelled was the appointment, not the authorised work?0 -
Even if the cancellation is valid, its quite possible they started the job before you cancelled, thus its null and void.0

We don't know if the OP DID cancel though. He doesn't have any evidence and his misinterpretation of other messages doesn't inspire confidence in his recall of events.MeteredOut said:

Best way forwards now would be to actually talk to the staff at the Halfords garage the car is at.1 -
Clear as mud.. sounds like the work would be done during the week between 20-27th Dec and then the repeated MOT which should now pass would be on 27th. You've potentially cancelled the repeat MOT but not the work, even before we get to the wording of the confirmation text.SparkyMark123 said:Hi , Halfords again. Your MOT and Tyre appointment appointment has been rescheduled to 2025-12-27 at for reg at the AutoCentre (NG31 6HS). Please CONFIRM here or let us know if you need to CHANGE the date again. Thank you
CANCEL
So then why not pay for the repairs and sell the car to recoup the money yourself?SparkyMark123 said:And in its failed not state only scrap. Now it’s had the repairs done they could probably recoup the repairs ( I was going to scrap it anyway)

I will restate just in case there is any doubt.
the car failed the mot on the 20/12 I was given a list of repairs and quoted a price of £1700 for repairs and this was booked in verbally for the 27/12.
i received a message shown prior that I assumed to the repairs and a repeat mot as I was told verbally. ( basically repair work and re test)
I then received a message which I thought was confirmation of the above discussion.
i then texted cancel
having received this and with the prior discussion in mind I assumed it had all been done so.0 -
so you sent the word cancel to the chatbot? did you follow the link and then cancel and explain why you were cancelling?

You now have a car with 12 months MoT, and a lot of recent spending done, to sell. If you genuinely cannot afford to pay for the repairs, even with the prospect of selling the car soon after, go along to the Halfords garage with the 2nd key, service history/books and V5 and wish them a good day. They have the right to hold the car "in tort" and they'll probably get a trade price for it, which is all you could hope for anyway. By adding the booklet, V5, etc you will increase the value a little.
If they make more than £1700 on the car they are obligated to give the balance to you.0 -

Probably best advice I’ve received so thank you and one a course of action I was leaning towards anyway.paul_c123 said:You now have a car with 12 months MoT, and a lot of recent spending done, to sell.
