Jojo, someone posted a really good tip about zips - apologies I can't remember who. Cut the teeth off the old zip as close to the metal as you can. Then sew the new zip to the tape of the old zip. No fiddly unpicking! It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!14

I've been having a sort out of my yarn stash, and came across 4 x 25g balls of salmon pink Sunbeam Shantung 65% silk 35% wool yarn. I paid 50p a ball last year, but am not sure I will ever used it. I hadn't thought of that but it seems to me like a good idea to be able to pass on things we're never going to use or wear!Floss said:I've been having a sort out of my yarn estash, and came across 4 x 25g balls of salmon pink Sunbeam Shantung 65% silk 35% wool yarn. Ooh, I made a lovely post, with intelligent* replies to relevant quotes, and lost it to the Internet 😐
Thank you PipneyJane! Good news that my uniform doesn't need coupons.
KeepCalmandCraft, the Lord be with you! Where are you studying, if you don't mind me asking? I'm part time at Cuddesdon for self sustaining ministry.
NellieGrace, there are patterns for clerical tops, but I've not sewn clothing for a few years, and what I've done is more around the house clothing... I do want to sew clothes using the material and patterns I already have, so we'll see how I can improve my skills ☺️
Thriftwizard, how kind!
Laura_Elsewhere, I think if the parish church isn't willing to serve the whole parish, it's a bit useless 😁 It might not have the capacity to provide everything everyone wants.
In real life, my church hosts a top up shop, or non referral food bank, as well as wellbeing cafe, toddler group and youth group. And church services, of course. And warm spaces.
There were more things I wanted to say, but either they'll come back to me, or they weren't important.
Ooh, new socks. Started Oct 2023, finished yesterday. 3 years of other socks in this yarn told me I needed to do reinforcement in an attempt to minimise the darning. So I added a better sock yarn to the heels and toes, and did heel stitch over the whole sole.
* I mean, I thought they were intelligent as I typed them...14 -
Firstly, welcome to @Jojo77_2 and to @Daisy1571 (and to anyone else I’ve missed). Please have a cup of tea and a seat by the fire. Don’t mind the dog on the rug - Scruffy is knackered because I took him for a run earlier.
Welcome back everyone else.
Lovely socks @SpikeyHedgehog.Liverpool_Anne said:Hi all,
@PipneyJane just a thought but iirc you have been looking for the navy suit for about 5 years and I think you should find a tailor and have one made. You know what you want and I am sure a tailor could make one and they will have a range of good woolen fabric. You deserve it 😁. It is something I remember my Mum telling me she aspired to as they were so well made they lasted for years. She did have a skirt and jacket made that she loved. I also worked with a young girl who used to design her own clothes and get them made for her by a tailoress, she always looked fabulous 😁.
Take care everyone
The thought has occurred to me @Liverpool_Anne, if only I could find a suitable pattern. I’m on the mailing list of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s outfitters, who also sell women’s clothes. They’re not far from Saville Row and specialise in tweed jackets. I’ll give my Clothing Allowance a couple more months to accumulate and will then visit their shop to see what they have/can do for me.
I might even attempt to make it myself, now that my size and weight have stabilised. It does depend, however, on whether I get around to making the Harris tweed skirt and trousers, which have been on my “To Do List” for about a year. Also depends on how well that process goes. (I know that I am procrastinating. It’s nearly 30 years since I last sewed myself some clothes.)Floss said:I've been having a sort out of my yarn stash, and came across 4 x 25g balls of salmon pink Sunbeam Shantung 65% silk 35% wool yarn. Hmm…. Ravelry tells me it’s Sport weight/5-ply, @Floss. If you are searching for pattern ideas, you may want to use it in a wrap similar to the one I posted about earlier, which would use the whole 100g. Alternatively, the Yarn Harlot designed a lovely cowl that uses 25g of 4-ply, which you could pair with some fingerless mitts made from the same yarn. (NB: The link is to my Ravelry notes, which you could use to develop your own cowl pattern.)
Re a Swaps Basket, please feel free to put up a “clearing stash” post or to message each other about items in your stashes. I think it’s against Forum Rules to post a price list, so please be careful with your wording. (Certainly, I am not allowed to link to my blog and the recipes/patterns posted there on. They’re free for anyone to access, but the rules won’t allow me to link to them.)

Slightly off topic, apologies, @PipneyJane, but we've had an email from the local police to say that Ford Focus and Fiesta cars are being targeted by thieves, as they're easier to steal. The keyless ignition seems to be the issue, so they're advising a Faraday pouch or box for the keys plus extra security. There was a car stolen a couple of streets away just a week or so ago, so we knew about it and DD bought a pack of two pouches for her keys.
Sorry for the interruption, but I hope it helps someone!2025 Fashion on the ration

I am a total muppet! I realised why my swatch doesn’t show up the chevron pattern for my cardigan. I was following a chart published by another knitter on Ravelry. Instead of graphically representing the pattern, she’d drawn a chart that had to be read from right to left regardless of whether you were knitting on the right side or on the wrong, so every second row was out of step with the pattern! Arrghhh!!!!!!
I’ve just recharted the pattern, photographed it and put it up on Ravelry. Fortunately, I’d only knitted three rows of the body of the pattern, above the ribbing, but that means I’m now tinking back 280 stitches…. < sigh >MrsCD said:Slightly off topic, apologies, @PipneyJane, but we've had an email from the local police to say that Ford Focus and Fiesta cars are being targeted by thieves, as they're easier to steal. Thanks for the heads up @MrsCD. Best to be careful. You don’t want your car to be taken/used by Fifth Columnists.

After a day's remand in custody LESLIE RAIMENT, 32, described as a Government contractor, of Inverness Mews, Paddington, was fined £50 by Mr. McKenna at Bow Street Police Court yesterday for having, during daylight, failed to secure a motor-car at Moxon Street, W., so as to render it while unattended incapable of use by unauthorised persons. He pleaded "Guilty".
Mr. McKenna said he had remanded Raiment in custody to consider whether he could adequately protect the public by imposing a fine. If he found himself in this position again he would get something like a month's imprisonment.
