Clearly this raiment was not adhering to wartime restrictions!Nelliegrace said:The Times, August 21st, 1940. Page 3
After a day's remand in custody LESLIE RAIMENT, 32, described as a Government contractor, of Inverness Mews, Paddington, was fined £50 by Mr. McKenna at Bow Street Police Court yesterday for having, during daylight, failed to secure a motor-car at Moxon Street, W., so as to render it while unattended incapable of use by unauthorised persons. He pleaded "Guilty".
Mr. McKenna said he had remanded Raiment in custody to consider whether he could adequately protect the public by imposing a fine. If he found himself in this position again he would get something like a month's imprisonment.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Yikes - a night in the cells and £50 (a huge sum in those days). I didn’t even know there was a regulation about motor cars, but it makes sense.I wonder if there was more to this than meets the eye, e.g. it wasn’t a first offence, because that sounds quite severe.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Would love to join if I may?
Got a few things on my list to buy this year. Waiting until my 2 months break from paying council tax to have the spare money to buy anything else (mainly new underwear and some plain t-shirts). We have a family wedding in July so will have to think about saving some coupons for that (even though I will probably just wear something I already have).
Over Christmas holidays, I have managed to darn a pair of socks with massive holes in them and the elbows of a lovely cashmere jumper which now has more darning than original jumper.
Have had far too much time perusing knitting patterns online (even though I currently have 2 projects on the go) and have a bit of a wish list for next projects. Have just bought sock wool from vinted so thats 2 coupons used.
Have also bought 2 pairs goats socks for husband and second hand climbing shoes for oldest son but I'm thinking this would all come out of their coupons not mine

Can I ask a question of all you experienced knitters please? How much wool would I need to knit a jumper, size 12ish? I learned to knit about 65 years ago and have made loads of hats, scarves, mittens and baby clothes but never had the confidence to knit myself a jumper, no idea why: I can knit and follow a pattern ok. I've decided that the time has come to give it a go, something fairly plain and easy but don't want to spend too much. I've been looking on vinted and there's quite a bit of wool but the largest amount is 10 x 50g. Would that be enough do you think? Thanks8

@Nonnadiluca - a lot of variables! If you can post the ball band details for the yarn then I'm sure people can give a better punt. Is it a 10 pack of a particular yarn? Do you have a pattern in mind?Fashion on the Ration 2026 Coupons 0/66

@nonnadiluca I think you'd be best choosing the pattern first, and then you will know what weight and type of wool you need for it, and once you know that, you'll know how much you need. You can always do stripes of more than one colour if you can't get enough in one batch!
2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
.
2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);9 -
Thanks Pip and Laura, that makes sense. The pattern I'm thinking of is a colour block, two colours, but I thought I'd just do it in one colour. It says 3 x 100g of each colour but no length of yarn is mentioned. More research into patterns is called for I think.7

Definitely agree with @Laura_Elsewhere on this as the amount of wool really varies with the ply of the wool and the knitting pattern used.Laura_Elsewhere said:@nonnadiluca I think you'd be best choosing the pattern first, and then you will know what weight and type of wool you need for it, and once you know that, you'll know how much you need. You can always do stripes of more than one colour if you can't get enough in one batch!
Am I correct in thinking that items from Vinted are second hand, if so, then no coupons would be required....2026 Fashion on the Ration:
0/66 coupons spent
0/26 items mended
0/26 x 50g wool knitted
1/26 items sewn
0/260 items decluttered
