My thought is to work them sideways. That would give you the necessary elasticity and it would help you with the fit..Gem-gem said:@Laura_Elsewhere well done, they are lovely fingerless gloves. I love the colours.Has anyone ever crocheted fingerless gloves? Any tips or words of wisdom welcome.

It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

Do you think St. Dorcas (also known as Tabitha) would feel at home among us?PipneyJane said:We need to come up with a suitable saint for our Norman church to be named after. Hmmm….

Probably not St Francis, @PipneyJane. With rationing, if it moves it is food. The pigeon risotto was tasty, and I have been given a pheasant.
How about James, John or Andrew? All skilled freshwater fishermen, very good in a storm now. How one’s mind dwells on food. St Peter would be rather busy at this time.
Hansard records discussion in Parliament about 10 supplementary clothing coupons for required work clothes, mainly protective clothing, but the St John’s Ambulance workers were allowed them. I couldn’t find any reference to clergy uniforms. It is such a special occasion, I wonder if friends and family might donate a coupon or two.
I went on a silent retreat day with The Mother’s Union, forty women together and not allowed to talk! One lady was embroidering a white clergy stole for weddings, and we were longing to ask her about it. Second hand sounds thrifty, @spikeyhedgehog, are there sewing patterns for clerical tops? I was thinking of blackout fabric. I loved my days as a student, (not training for ministry,) at St John’s College.

If we call it St Dorcas and St Catherine's I will be unable to resist calling it St Tabby's and St Cat's, or even St Tabbys and Cats. I hope that's OK.

I'm quite a fan of Tabby McTat by Julia Donaldson, just to prove I do read some current literature.

I am liking the sound of Dorcas, made things for the poor kind of fits with my way of thinking but I am not religious in any conventional way at all so know nothing about any of the others mentioned 😁
Take care everyone10 -
I admit I very much fell by the wayside last year, but I would like to join in this year again.
I don't have anything I particularly need to buy at the moment*, but need to use up my stash of fabric and wool - which means actually using my craft-room as opposed to dumping stuff in it. New Year's resolution is to actually finish all my WIP's/UFO's - I'm embarrassed to admit how many I actually have!
* Just remembered I need a couple of balls of 4-ply for the shawl I'm crocheting as a wedding present
So, 66 coupons to play with. OK, I can do this.
