Tilly Tidy with pennies in 2026

Welcome to this group, old and new members of making our pennies work harder in 2026.

This is to challenge yourself of collecting what would be nothing to others yet for us they have a lot of important work to do. Even collecting dropped change off the floor counts towards Tilly Tidying. Does your bank offer to round-up your spends and puts away into a savings account for you?
If you've never saved before or are starting out to get into new habits, getting an emergency fund going or even out of debt. This is an ease into the way of learning to budget funding.

No judgement, no limits, no right or wrong way to do this, it is simply done your own way.

You could start with change that is lying about the house, in the back of a drawer, down the back and sides of the lounge suite, under the bed, left over coppers in your purse. in the bottom of your handbag, the bottom of the toy box, absolutely any change found. Record your finds so you can see how this starts to add up. You could put this into a pot of your choosing i.e  another purse or into bank account for later.

Let us know how you are getting on - it's nice to hear of your progress. You could update weekly or monthly. Are you using to pay off debt? or just see how you get on building some savings for a treat or short break or house item to make life a little easier.

Here's to a more saving savvy 2026

    Hi All,

I have just added my Tilly Tidy numbers for last year which came to £281.06. I hadn't kept a running tally through the year so had no idea how much it was to be. There were even movements of money at .01p into the TT account several times. I was pleasantly surprised as I had no target of how the money was to be used. It has all gone into an ISA. I  am fortunate that our debts have been cleared but see no reason for not carrying on saving in anyway that suits and works.
There are many ways others could have a plan for that amount. Even if getting from debt you added all the small overpayments (OP) I remember sending just .45p at times and other small numbers. Add these up as you go, if you are paying interest it reduces that too so that makes it a double win. The rule of thumb is to pay the highest interest debt first - however if you have small amounts like we did I chose to pay the smallest first to get quicker wins of clearing a credit card balance then add half of that money to the next debt along with the overpayments.

Wishing you well on your journey for 2026

    Hello All,
It's very sunny here so sat indoors and the sun is beaming through the windows and giving some free heat.

Does anyone save any loose change and then upgrade it to larger value coins?
     I have many savo's.
A cup we don't use, is used to collect the coppers, I then transfer them into the cash bags and check local businesses that will exchange for a £1 coin as it saves them money too. I have an old dimple jar which was my dads and only 5p coins fit that. I am aiming to fill the bottle just the once and see how much is collected and let the bottle go. Another item is a vintage coin collector which I use for £2 coins. I have filled that previously and again used the local businesses in exchange for notes and we put that towards our shopping bills.
I will try to keep a track of these savings this year.

    Hi,

I haven't done much tillying this month. I'll be making a start from Monday 👍

I did average £30 a month doing this last year which is not to be sneezed at!

Hope some more peeps join in, I found it easier than the 1p a day challenge, especially towards the end of the year.

Hi @Naomim nice to see you back and happy new Tilly Tidying.

In the mean time I am here still doing what I do (hence my pseudo name  ;) ) yet doing it better than previous. I find it fascinating what can be done with not a lot yet get the sense of achievement from it still, even now. I have a friend who has with a lot of help managed to get herself from being in debt due to gambling all her life and has now got a good emergency fund. We are very proud of her. I will be working with her to do the small budgets i.e car tax/insurance/fuel/servicing. Starting with one pot then move onto the next.

It is frustrating when getting a bit of money together something comes along and wipes it out. Remember Peeps this is what it is there for. It is still a win win you had it and were able to pay for what was needed and no added debt.

    Hi 2Scratters,

I'm having to rebuild my saving pots, had to buy a 'new to me' car and also a new bathroom, so my funds are a bit depleted. I'm also now looking at paying down my mortgage as the deal I had for the last few years has come to an end and my monthly payments are going up a bit, so I should really start paying this down too
