    Why wouldn't you?

If you claim benefits, you play by DWP rules.
If you were employed would you answer any question your employer asked?
Wht bring up employment?  Pollycat said 'If I was on benefits'. nothing to do with being emplyed.
Strangely enough I knew what was said as I read it and even quoted. it seems a very strange thing to say unless someone is in the habit on not actually bothering to read a post they are replying too.

Pollycat gave a hypothetical answer to a question that wasn't asked to them, As they involved their-self in the thread I wondered what the answer was to a question that was actually addressed to them.

    Yes.

And, in fact, if someone is going on holiday, the conversation does tend to naturally turn to where they are going and wishing them a nice time.  If I was at work, or a social environment, or any other environment for that matter, I'd find it a bit odd if someone was going away and evaded the question about where.  I don't in any way see it as prying and there is no need to give great detail if you don't want to.

The only time I have been in an environment where an individual was booking annual leave but cagey about where they were going / what they were doing, it turned out they were moonlighting with a competitor.  Not everyone goes on holiday when booking annual leave, but will typically share whatever their alternative is - decorating / building a shed / kids activity / whatever
I didn't ask about just the holiday I did states "any question"   would you answer any question an employer asked?

Just because a person is on benefits it shouldn't mean that they can be asked any question and have to answer it. The poster is seeking if they do have to answer this question. (I don't feel the question in their journal is to wish them a nice time).

    Why bring up employment?
My employer (when I had one) paid me for the work I did.
    Who pays for benefits?

But to answer your question, I would not start a thread on a public forum if my employer asked where I was going on holiday.
I would simply give the answer.

But the OP was not asked the question by their employer.
They were asked by the government office responsible for administering benefits.
    Who pays for benefits?

I didn't ask about the holiday I asked any question. I asked wondering if they would be any boundaries
If  there were you might seek to find out if you actully have to answer that question,  just as the posting is seeking out if they have to answer this one.

You would answer every intimate personal question as you have nothing to hide?

I can't imagine any question that any employer would ask that I could not answer.

Besides, in this thread, there was no intimate personal detail being asked so far as I could tell.

You're talking about face-to-face where that's natural.  But the original question was via the journal, completely different.  However as above, I'd just answer if I were OP and not cause myself needless stress.
It was also referenced as being brought up via "customer engagement"

So why not just answer what is after all a simple question this time?
If someone at DWP is just trying to bully you over a week long holiday it’s fair to feel a bit aggrieved.
Or maybe they are just asking as they are looking for somewhere to go or simply want to wish them have a great time in Spain..
Something many people who work on the phone do. Customer engagement.
If you believe that you’ll believe anything.
As someone who works on the phones, I know it's something we do. Seems some people are a lot more cynical 🤷‍♀️

My mistake then, I should have said "in real-time communication", chatting/talking/having a natural conversation.  Still not the same as via journal or "insisting" in any context, as the OP put it

Either way, I still don't understand why anyone would not simply answer.

What (maybe badly) I'm trying to say is if a question is asked  do I have to answer.
Saying I would /would not  answer it isn't actually addressing the question asked, they are just personal opinions not based on any law.

With UC you are either inside or outside of GB, there is no such thing as a holiday.
For UC the most important thing is the CC, if a job seekers then could be relevant asking where a person is going as a person in France could get to an interview quicker than a person in Oz. If a person is in LCWRA, then it matters not where outside GB they are

Some jobs you'd need to disclose very personal information, from finances to relationships to what websites you frequent. Same jobs may also bar you from travelling to certain countries.

    But that's probably being facetious...
