Spusu and EU roaming

I've recently activated my Spusu SIM and most things work as expected. One thing that's not clear is what they mean when they talk about EU roaming. I've now talked twice to their CS and they don't seem to know more about that I do. They gave conflicting information and they gave me prices that I can't find in their price list. So I've sent an email with my questions and asked for a definite answer... that was one week ago and no response at all.

What I've been told is that calling back from the EU to the UK has a per-minute charge but what they can't agree on is how much that would be and the price list seems no great help either.

It's also not clear whether the included 500min of EU roaming will cover calls say from Belgium to Portugal.

Does anyone know anything definite because they've already been to the EU? Thanks!

    I’m on their £5 5Gb deal.

The app suggests that 3Gb is allowed as eu roming.
    500 roming sms

    500 minutes as EU roming
    500 uk to eu

Yeah I know that. But what does "EU roaming" actually mean? Lebara have (or had) a strange rule that calls to the UK and locally (ie France to France) come from the unlimited UK minutes but calls from France to say Spain come from the 100 international minutes (and I was bitten by that). They have other quirks which made me leave them. Others have others definitions of "EU roaming"... it's a bit wild west out there.

Spusu so far seems OK but it's near impossible to get a clear statement about that from them :-1:  I'll have to wait and see once I'm actually there... won't be long but shouldn't be that much faff.

At long last there was an answer to my email query. According to that, EU roaming covers all calls between EU countries up to the 500min allowance. And calls back to UK are covered as well. Strange though that two CS people advised me that this would be chargeable... doesn't inspire much confidence.

And not sure whether a written confirmation will help much if it turns out to be wrong. I'll be in France and Belgium over Xmas so will check that!
  • The roaming included with Spusu is pretty much the same as other networks. We are with 1p Mobile and have had no problems roaming (Spain and Jersey on multiple trips)

Lebara roaming IS different and can be a real hassle... One of the reasons I've dumped them. Spusu so far seems fine.

The good news is that Spusu roaming works and works well, better than Lebara's crappy offer. The not so good news is that their customer service reminds me of RWG's "black hole"... Both email and Whatsapp messages are either ignored or take ridiculous amounts of time till they're answered. Calling them is faster but appears unreliable as I had twice been given  answers which were wrong. And with calls there's no written trail to point to in case of errors. So not perfect but better than what I've used before.

Do you know any SIM-only networks that give you real free roaming? Suppose you are in Italy, that would include calls to Italy and France, as well as calls from/to the UK.

There is a lot of confusion around 'free roaming'. Before Brexit it included calls to local and any other EU country while you were abroad, as well as calls from the UK. After Brexit, Lebara and others started using marketing with phrases such as 'like at home' which sneakily meant that only calls to/from the UK were coming out of your allowance. Strictly speaking, 'like at home' is accurate but designed to be confusing. A while ago a spent a lot of time talking to providers who were skirting around the issue.

1p Mobile certainly worked for calls to local Jersey numbers while there last June and to Spanish numbers while in Spain last May. I’ve not tried calling other EU countries while roaming though.

    They say:
'That's right take your 1pMobile tariff with you when visiting any of the places listed below, whether that is calls back to the UK, within the country you are visiting or to any of the other destinations listed.'

So, they are clear and doing the right thing. Thanks.
