I wasn’t following any steps, I came across this forum when I first got my letter before claim, 
someone had started a thread similar to mine and someone had provided a response to that, which I copied

But you should still be following the steps and advice in announcements before asking questions,  so please read them and follow them closely

This was the claim form I responded to using a template from the newbies thread.

I think you were following the 8 steps because you put a defence in on MCOL (as instructed in those steps) and you said above that you used the template defence.

We understand that you followed what the NEWBIES thread says about defending a claim. Which takes you to the Template Defence thread (and the 8 steps are there).
