Mobile data limit issues?
Hello all
I have some issues with my Galaxy S24FE Android I am with Vodaphone.
1) Every day or two I totally lose internet connection. I have to turn phone off and back on again and normally gets it working again (this is even if I have yet to reach my Data Limit).
2) the main issue is that yesterday it did the same as above and after 3-4 hours I still had no Internet using my mobile data.
I got a warning message on my mobile saying I had reached my max mobile data.
I called Vodafone and they told me to change the 25gb as it was set at 15gb and to turn off "set Data Warning"
I said yes but once I reach 25gb wont ot stop my Internet data usage again? He said no it would not as you have now turned off the "set data warning" (not sure if thats true?)
I asked him how much data I have used since 1st December and he said a lower MB amount. Almost noting.
But my phone is saying I am using like 1GB per day. Vodafone said thats totally incorrect.
I said should I not set the data limit to 95gb and theres no way even at 1gb per day I will reach 95gb as I have unlimited data. He said no as once you go over a certain data you will get charges to your account??? But how if I have unlimited data.
What is going on and how can I fix this issue of my losing access to my mobile data at random times until I turn phone off and on again and also stop my phone thinking I have reached my mobile data limit?
Thanks all

You are right, switch off the 'set data limit' toggle in photo 1 as currently your phone will switch off mobile data at 25GB and it won't switch mobile data back on until the 1st of the month (billing cycle date).
Losing mobile connection:
Photo 2 appears to show 9.42GB of data used when tethering (WiFi hotspot), which accounts for most of your mobile data use. Do you have another device tethered to your phone?
If so that device could be hogging your mobile data bandwidth.

The advice from Vodafone is wrong. (It's possible that your billing cycle isn't from the first of the month which would explain why they think you've used less datat)
It's also worth mentioning that people have told Samsung for years that the name of the setting is capable of causing confusion.
Despite it saying Billing, there's no connection to Vodafone and your bill. The phone simply keeps a track of data in and out and let's you set a limit.
I would either set the limit to 100Gb (as you said) or turn it off.0 -
Thanks.
Ive set data limit off now.
Vodaphone said not to do that as I may get additional data uses charges but I said I have unlimited mobile data and he confirmed I do but said I may still get mobile data charges if I goto high???? Makes no sense to me. He said the default should be set at 25gb??
Yes I have to other devices which are connected via mobile hotspot that get used sometimes.
Interesting as its when my other devices are using mobile data from my phone that I get the you are not connected to WIFI message or no Internet connection (something like that).
But how do I stop this?
Ive changed settings now to the attached..should this now stop the mobile data stopping issue?

I think that phraseology is an Android feature and not specific to Samsung. My Moto has pretty much the same. The start date of the cycle can be amended to align with the billing cycle, but the data is still independent.PHK said:

The OP seems to be using a lot of data and that is tethering another device. Is that intentional or is another device picking the phone wifi in preference to a fixed broadband wifi service?
What does the OP lose if they turn off portable hotspot?
Now, as to the signal issues, the OP states:blackstar said:Hello all

My phone has recently acted in a similar way.
I am with Tesco Mobile (uses O2) and have a Motorrolla phone so it cannot be anything specific to the network or the make of phone given the OP has both different to me.
I reached the point of thinking it was down to the SIM card being old and needing replacement but Tesco Mobile declined my request with an explanation that the network was experiencing a higher level of drop out as a result of the 3G being turned off. It was explained that when the masts are being worked on to disable the 3G, that mast is powered down entirely while the reconfiguration is implemented. This results in reduced overall network.
As a result, Tesco Mobile will not entertain a replacement SIM card until after 31st December when the local 3G will be fully gone and the network reconfiguration activities fully completed.
I have no idea whether the information given by Tesco Mobile is correct. If it is correct, it seems entirely plausible that the same impacts would be felt by other networks.
As for setting the data limit to 100GB, that will prevent the phone from warning or pausing the data connection, but what actual data allowance does the OP have?
As an aside, on my phone, when the data limit is reached even if the warning is disabled, there is an icon in the top line of the display showing that the phone has paused mobile data.0 -
Presumably Voda are talking about their fair usage policy, unlimited data or not. You'd have to check your T&Cs.blackstar said:Thanks.

Thanks.
Ive set data limit OFF. So it doesnt matter what I set the data limit to be correct?
Yes I have other devices that are connected to my mobile hot-spot deliberately as they are needed. So unfortunately cant turn off hot-spot
My data allowance is unlimited.

You've not said exactly how you are using hotspot but you should be aware that extended use of a mobile phone as a Wi-fi hub is not going to be good for the phone's internals, particularly the battery. If you can, keeping the phone on charge when hotspotting will help but the phone is still likely to run hot.blackstar said:Thanks.

You might think about another 4/5G Wi-fi device if you can, but of course this would need a second SIM.

Sorry yes Im using my mobile phone to provide hot-spot wifi to two Ipads0

One factor I have found is if a call or text comes in while using the hotspot, it can cause the hotspot to drop.
For long term use as an alternative to fixed broadband, a specific mobile WiFi / mifi might well offer more satisfactory experience1 -
Putting the phone on charge whilst using it as an active hotspot will double the heat, I wouldn't put much faith in the phone surviving let alone the batteryflaneurs_lobster said:
