Yes a company can change the price of an item as often as they want.  However, they cannot use a price as indicator of 'previous price' unless it has been at that price for a minimum of 28 days.

thank you for the feedback on altering prices being legal and the reference to trading standards.  At this stage I am just interested in the legal position.
The legal position is what I outlined.

    The end of the story.

Joybuy.co.uk is a chinese company new to uk, with a beta tag on the website.  I tried to buy a Hisense TV at the lowest price in the UK in the November black friday time frame.  There was a failure of my debit card payment so I used paypal which worked.  Then the delivery was cancelled and force refunded whilst 'on the truck'.  Forumites rightly pointed out that this was pretty clear warning signs of a company to avoid.

Surprisingly, they had pretty fast and pretty effective custoomer service by phone, and I recieved a voucher that should have been enough to get back to the original price - it was still £150 short of the price in January.  I bought the TV anyway, delivered and unboxed without fault, but thought I'd take a complete punt with customer service and ask for the £150 difference as well.  OK, it came in the form of another voucher, but it still allowed me to buy an LG soundbar for the TV with money already spent.

Similarly I noted they are starting to respond to low trustpilot reviews.

    Good enough result for me.

Thanks for the help and advice along the way.  I've learned that 'order confirmed' means something legally, and that companies can change prices whenever they like!
